Does it have any # s on it ? If you are not sure what it is... call the store ..
That may be the way they label chick food ...if it was layer it may be labeled .
If you are concerned about them not being able to eat it you could moisten it with a little bit of water..

I'll continue to wear a mask when going out.
It cant hurt to wear a mask ..
how you get treated for allergies ...is you get tested .
When they figure out what you react to....they test what level you react to .
They then give you a shot or drop below that level ..that helps you build up a immunity to that allergen .
Of course if you are deathly allergic to something ..it is not a good idea to expose yourself to it .

Here are two of the dominiques (I think) sleeping outside their cave. I guess it was too warm inside. You can see another chick just inside the opening.

It's very difficult to read, copy and find things on my kindle and I couldn't find the original post about the "Smelly Egg Cartons". So I am doing it this way.
I keep my paper cartons in a large plastic tote with a lid and a box of baking soda keeps them scent free and dry too. I change it out monthly and use the old baking soda to clean the chicken waterer and food dishes. The best part about it is it non-toxic and has enough abrasive to clean any stuck on food particles. Additionally, there is a bit of air circulating around the cartons... I don't think wrapping them in plastic allows for air flow.

Awe so cute!!! Looks just like my kitty of 14yrs Tyler.
Good job on keeping the kitty going. He must feel bunches of love to keep on keeping on. I don't think that anyone or anything stays for so long unless they are greatly loved.

I rescued Frankie and Johnny out of my back yard in a rainstorm when they were only about a week old. There mother (a feral cat) rejected them and I raised them on a bottle. A few weeks later I managed to swipe her two females she had kept as well. One refused to eat so I gave her back to momma and she got killed on the road later that year and momma met a similar fate as well. I gave Frankie to my daughter and kept Pearl and Johnny. All three of them became diabetic! I had to euthanize Pearl because she was so wild I couldn't catch her to give her the insulin and she was peeing all over the house. Frankie died several years ago from complications from the disease as well. Johnny has always been the snuggler and thinks I'm his mother.

Hi everybody! Happy new year! I just got my five chicks today. Two weeks old. But I have a question. What's starter food supposed to look like? The one I bought looks almost as big as aquarium gravel. Is that normal? I thought it would be finer, almost powdery.
I crush up the first few days worth of crumbles. They eventually can eat crumble though.

For larger birds I make a mush to reduce the waste from them "scratching" .

how many would you need to rehome to be down to a manageable number?
Probably about a dozen or so.. One thing about moving chickens is they get stressed and this can cause problem. I'll have no trouble "rehoming" chickens. If I offer them for free I'll have no shortage of takers.

Lots of folks want everything for cheap or free.
