Ok, so now I feel a bit foolish. I found the label on the feed bag. It was a fifty pound bag, so when I was checking the bag for a label I never thought to flip the thing upside down. Who puts their label on the bottom of the bag?

But I guess it makes sense, since the store keeps them lying on their sides, stacked on each other. So then the label is visible to the front of the stack. It's just a piece of paper attached to the seam of the bag. Anyway, it does say chick starter crumble and its 20 percent protein. Didn't see a date, but since I missed this label, it could be there and I can't see it

awesome. I'm glad it's starter. After mine finish the starter phase I put them on all flock grower. So far they are fat and happy. They all lay and I offer oyster shell on the side. All flock seems to be higher protien than layer.

Ive said this quite a few times... why on the bottom where no one could see it ..?

dont worry they are little eating machines ...they will go through it ..
It will be okay to keep them on it ...till they need layer if it happens that way ..

On allergies, yes, bronchitis and pneumonia can start as allergies, so can sinus infections. If your allergies manifest as swelling and congestion and an infection sets in, the swelling and congestion get worse, and can become those other named infections...but contributing to it are the ongoing allergies. But the mask should help, and doing all the things you would do to get over colds etc should get you through. Many people with allergies get relief by flushing out their sinus area with salt water...it gets the yuck and infectious mucus out, and seems to speed recovery.

Sorry folks if I came off whatever the emotion is. I appreciate everyone's concern and prayers. DW is sick too and quite frankly it's been hard. We haven't been anywhere in weeks. Yesterday was the first time I'd been to a store so my trip to get the feed was a big deal.

I'm an outdoors person and have been known to go out in the middle of the night and just sit admiring the falling snow. She watches the same junk on TV and because she's sick I let her have control. Cooking shows, remodeling shows, old movies, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I might not be feeling so bad if i'd gotten my chores done but I didn't. Believe it or not it easier to pull that wagon through when the ground if frozen. It's muddy and that makes walking difficult. The bottom of my bathrobe is muddy too.

I stapled an old navy blanket over the Coop with the three daisies. It's going to be cold. I haven't done the plastic yet either. I like the plastic up so I can spread the hay in the run. It's smells nice and looks good too. I hate chickens with wet feet.

I do know that now is not a good time for rehoming chickens and I'm not a patient man. Of course it's not a good time to grow out chicks too. The Dels are part of Kathinmo line and I'd lost two this past spring so was working to replace them. You can see the difference in the three hens.

Every year I give away chicks and no one should be buying EE hatching eggs without contacting me first. I've a new hen laying that lays a very dark Olive color. You know the gross green.

DD and hers have moved out but there is still stuff to be got. She comes and takes a little each time. It was not a good deal so things are stressed. Sometimes I think parents get the blame for things that are not their fault. I didn't tell her to marry the jerk. Too she had free tuition to nursing school through DW and blew it! Some kids just don't appreciate what they've been given.

Sorry for that.

Anyhow come spring I'll feel better I'm sure. Spring is always a new beginning to me.

Yes Aria, chickens are important to me. They keep me active. I don't want to be one of those old folks who sits and watches time pass waiting for the Grim reapers. Ohh I can't wait for the new season of Grimm to start.

Anyone here got Amazon Prime? I was thinking about getting it for my tablet but they take all your information before telling you how much it cost.

Been picking out veggies for the garden and have the map done. I'm on the homestead thread if anyone has advice on what's good to grow. I'm into storage now. What's good for storing. Anyone here do herbs? Dried? I could do frozen but the freezer is pretty much full. I do can and ate a small jar of applesauce with some Cranberry jelling in it.

It's good to know others understand. After two weeks of being sick I want to say, "take me out and shoot me". My Lord if you knew how filthy we were as kids you'd think I'd be immune. Mom was not the cleanest nor did she teach us well. If not for neighbors and folks I don't think I'd have learned anything. An episode of " Hoarders" can do a lot to motivate you (not you personally) to clean junk out.

My dd uses a Netty pot thing but it doesn't sound pleasant. I have one sinus that is deviated and the ENT wanted to operate but I've a friend who I remember seeing sitting in church and all the sudden blood was flowing. I asked him if it was worth it and he said no so I never had the surgery.

Well I still have my glass grinder thing, maybe I'll take up stained glass.

I'd still have to wear a mask though. And safety glasses.

well maybe I can talk my husband into letting me have them when your ready. There is no reason to just give them away, I can bring you manure and eggs in exchange. Well eggs if your girls are still in low production. I have a coop empty that they could go into and my girls free range so until they get aquainted there would be no fighting. If you find them a good safe home that's great if not let me know .

I'm sure I won't need eggs but I can always use manure. What kind of manure? Even in winter manure can sit. Farming doesn't quit just cuz the snows falling, but I know you know that.
