NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi all! It was a no go on keeping them at my grandmother's - she is apparently looking to sell her house this year and move to an apartment. It's not the end of the world, since I do have some other options still. I will also be checking in with my cousin who lives down the road from where we live now and see if she might let me keep them there. Her daughter loves them and I'd offer her all the eggs she wants, so we'll see. We are also wanting to keep a piece of the land we own now to keep our camper on so if we are able to do that, I will of course just move the chickens onto that piece of land. I won't know for sure on what I'm going to do until April, at any rate. I have decided to pare down my layer flock a little though and I'm selling off all but one of my buff orpington hens. That'll help my feed bill and I already have a lot of interest in them.

I'm also selling a breeding trio of cemanis, if anyone is interested. All are solid black with the exception of the cockerel who has red in his wattles, but with a good culling program you could start a nice flock with them. I'm only asking $300 since the cockerel has the flaw. If anyone is interested let me know :)

Gourmet mice??  :gig
Yeh, yeh, yeh. Laugh it up.

But seriously, though, it worked for me. And how do you guys get those funny moving faces in your posts? Those are really cool. I hope things work out for you Pyxis. At least you have options. It would be a bit of a hassle running around from one place to another to take care of your various flocks, though.

Thanks! I've run it by my cousin and she is considering it, so we'll see. As for the moving faces, you can get them by clicking 'more' under the smilies on the side of the post editor if you're on a computer. Or, if you know the code for them, you can just type the code. For example : love without the space between the colon and the word shows as :love

I don't see smileys. But I'm on my phone. Would that make a difference? :love lets see if the code works. I hope your cousin says yes. Does she already Have her own chickens? And will she have to do a lot with yours? I suppose she'll at least have to let them out, feed than and Lock them up on a daily basis? But free eggs!...........

It worked! Now, how do I get these codes? Is there a list of them somewhere?

I'm not sure if they're on the mobile site, but I'll check for you. And no, she doesn't, but after her husband took care of mine for a week while I was on vacation he was on a kick about them getting their own for a while before it petered out so hopefully he'll take up the offer of free eggs and none of the labor plus a bit of money to 'rent' the land. They won't have to feed, water, or let them out - I'll put an automatic door on the coop.

Edit: Doesn't look like you can add them on mobile like you can on a computer, but using the codes will work.

Fingers and toes crossed as well as sending good thoughts and wishes for a place for U to keep your birds. I have a tough enough time going on vacation, can't imagine trying to find a new piece of land to put them on. I love my auto doors. Even tho my birds are just a short walk from my house, not having to be there at dawn and dusk is wonderful!

well. In a hurry to get back to nyc, and mostly my lack of understanding with anything technology- I didn't realize that I left the incubator settings wrong. It was just a test hatch for the new Brinsea I got for christmas. Anyways I learned a lesson that I thought I already knew. And I guess it just reminds me: "IF you don't have time to do something right the first time, you aren't going to have time to go back to fix it"

I guess the turning setting was off. woops. Well one chick hatched anyways, idk if that's possible but it happened. So because I was careless now it's all this nonsense. Mr. baunlee is supppppperr pleased with me that he has to go through all this hassle for one chick. I'm pretty sure that sounds like the biggest headache ever and lonely for the lil guy. I told him to try and find a mirror for now. woops.

sweetpea: " Her foot is pretty swollen and smells...kind of like propane gas. Sounds like bumble foot, but there is no obvious sign of injur"

holy crap this sounds interesting, please keep us posted.
I am still learning but there is so much health wise that I still don't know.
