NY chicken lover!!!!

Looking to rehome some chicks as we have too many and can't keep so many in town limited. Any advise where to list
CL is always good, depending on how much you charge. Many people still don't know about BYC nor care to join another forum. If you have a FB page you could try there. Pictures will help too. Lots of folks have chicks. Auctions are a waste of time since most are so far away it's not worth the drive. You can sell them for a dollar and still make more than at an auction.

I know a lot of you sit and watch your chickens like it's TV (me, too). Found this on facebook and thought what a great idea it is, even if you are not much of a carpenter.

This is a great idea and easier than you think. You can get your boards cut for free at HD or Lowes. The hard part? Finding the chairs for cheap.

We have a few week old chicken that has a slice down his breast bone area that went through the skin but did not hit muscle. We are trying to clean it but we don't know how to close it up. Any suggestions?

TSC has this stuff in a tube,

Lambert Kay EMT Gel contains the active ingredient Type 1 Hydrolysate of Collagen which provides a matrix for new cell growth.
  • Seals and protects wounds
  • Promotes rapid healing
  • Relieves pain & itching
  • Reduces scarring
  • Non-toxic and non-sensitizing
Poultry: Yes

I swear by it!!
Personally witnessed it heal up a super bad wound on my dog, some people like to use 'blue coat', I will for now on use 'betadine' (povidone iodine) and then that lambert kay collagen stuff.
Besides that when you capon a cockerel, they just fold the skin over, no sutures or stitches, no nothing, and it heals up.

Chicken girl-I wish I lived closer. I have 20 dozen washed and ready to go right now with 4 baskets waiting to be washed because I don't have enough frig space. My regular egg customer hasn't come in a couple weeks and I get just over 2 dozen a day. Everyone has kicked into laying gear.

Being said if anyone needs eggs in rome/westmoreland area no reasonable offer will be turned down. I have eating/hatching eggs and pekin duck eggs. I am over run with eggs at the moment.

I have this recipe for Pound cake that uses 10 eggs.

You could make pound cakes to freeze or give to friends and family.

DW says you never go anywhere empty handed so a pound cake would make a nice hostess gift when going to visit friends or family. I like to add Orange flavoring, but there are others. Rum, Lemon, etc. etc.

It will go nice with some homemade jam. I have a nice Strawberry/pineapple jam that I like. Tops has a sale on raspberries and strawberries, buy two get three free. I like to buy them and freeze them. Though I hope to someday have enough of my OWN raspberries. I should probably start a Strawberry patch too.

I just printed it out cuz I have lots of eggs too. I may be hard to find buyers as Aldi's has eggs for 69 cents a dozen. Folks will go for that rather than spend $3.

Forgot why I came on .

I've got frozen gooseberries and need 1 pound for my recipe. How do I figure the amount?

I pulled out Tab's pound cake recipe since I'm doing jams and jellies to clean out space in the freezer.

I did use 4 cups of frozen berries and that worked out fine for the Gooseberry/strawberry jam.

I just don't know how to convert the weight recipes.

Brought home three beautiful mixed chicks today thanks to @Lapeerian ! I think they're about a month old? They are settling down well watching the big girls (I have a little section inside the main pen for them), and the big girls are really freaked out by them. They wont even go near the chicks unless I'm in there- too funny!

I'm now technically over my legal limit- I'm allowed 5 hens, this will make 7 (although the plan is to give one away eventually). Everyone think good thoughts for me that since they don't smell or bug anyone I wont get reported!!

Seems to me the math of things you're not even at your limit. As long as things don't smell and there isn't a great deal of noise. I wouldn't worry.
