IF it is not open to the public - how is this government!? I know I am in Vermont - but ANY meeting - even a brainstorming one - has to be subject to Open Meeting Laws if it is municipal, state or such. ONLY clubs or things like that can have closed meetings.
I was on my local Planning Commission - and most of the time - the people deciding do NOT know the facts ... and the person who stomps the loudest gets their way - one reason I am not one any more and doing things from the other end. The more people you bring - the more easy to read handouts you give and the more you can say and prove and video - the better. BE PERSISTENT.
Well the planning board first met in March, it was a private meeting and that's when they proposed an ordinance banning all sorts of livestock, bees etc. the public meeting had many chicken supporters so they had to go back to the drawing board. And you are so right that the person who stomps the loudest gets their way because that's how this all started.
@rancher hicks I put together a whole report about backyard chickens and the benefits, why people do it. The report has the commonalities in ordinances I saw in New York State. There's also a spreadsheet that is easier to read with what ordinances seem to include. It's very detailed and the code officer seemed to really appreciate the time I took to put it all together.
I'm really hoping the meeting goes well on Monday. Thank you all for your support and advice!
