Roos do this ...put the hens to bedChecking in just to say hello to everyone!
So far, they LOVE the game feed with extra protein some of you have recommended. We've kept them on it but I also added some of the regular layer crumbles too.Does the game feed have Calcium ? you can probably do it 1/2 and 1/2 or slowly discontinue the game as the layer should have enough protein ...long as it is their main feed .
but I look the the town idiot chasing after them to get them in the coop and when I close the gate, my 4 year old finds it funny to set a
Chickens indeed have their mysteries. We've gone the pet route with our flock - each has a name and a chicken pension plan. One of our hens (barred rock, featured avatar actually) was seriously ill when we got her, and is very close to a red sexlink. She was at the vet's for a few days. Dejectedly, the sexlink went and hung out with the chicken who resembled her the most - a silver laced Wyandotte who didn't like pullets but grudgingly put up with her anyway.Well now I can't say about the rooster but I do know chickens are strange. If you go into your coop at night you're likely to see them lined up by breed. I had eight different breeds so I just think some breeds didn't like the others.
The Dominiques were a bossy breed, and noisy. I had one hen who squawked for the others to come in at night. It was not hard to understand why hens are called biddies.
Aussies were nice as were the Buff Orps.
I had a young Cuckoo Marans roo who was young and gang busters. He's just sit near the door and dance with any hen that walked by. He was huge. I feared he'd kill poor Frenchy so he had to go. I regret giving him up though.
This is a planning board meeting where they are writing up a new ordinance. At the initial town hall meeting they had written an ordinance banning chickens, bees, rabbits, etc, tons of people showed up saying they can't not allow chickens! Basically the town board had no idea so many people had chickens.
The second meeting was smaller where my neighbor showed up and was super rude to me. People were pretty shocked with his behavior. But at the end of that meeting the decision was made to try to come up with an ordinance to allow chickens, rabbits, bees and other livestock with certain stipulations.
As far as I know this meeting isn't open to the public and the code officer just invited me. But that you so much for offering!
I'm hoping it looks good for chickens that I'm invited and can see what ordinance they're thinking of writing up this time. I'm nervous!
Too bad you couldn't put together a slide presentation.Yes I'll have to loan them my copy
