NY chicken lover!!!!

I haven't been on here recently. I tried to catch up but after skimming over several pages, I still have about 20 pages left.
So, I'm just skipping to the end.

Welcome to the newbies!
Congrats to those with new chicks, etc.

I've been very busy with hatching chicks & now turkey poults. Trying to build pasture pens, only to get sick & get behind schedule. Now on the mend & enjoying all the critters, warmer weather, etc.
7th hatch for 2016 going into hatcher for lockdown today. Lots of broody hens & loving it!

Congrats on the babies and the broodies.

The chicks are 23 days now. Is it OK to put the brooder cage in the big coop to let them bond? There are 21 1 year olds and 6 babies so I know I absolutely can not put them all in without barrier, but I would like them to become civilized with one another. Plus I need to move the brooder cage to make room for another brooder when the babies get here on the 10th.

So far the candling is going good. All 41 are developing but 2 are not as far as the rest. Is it possible they will be ok just a bit behind schedule? Or should I pull them?

Do not pull. They could be viable. If it smells...then dump it. Nothing worse then pulling a viable egg. Look for movement. You can always pull on day 18 if there is nothing going on. Mark the air save and if it does not get bigger, then you know that it might be questionable.

Good day everyone, I am from the town of Horseheads. I want to raise chickens but the ordinance states I cannot. Has anyone ever gotten these changed? If so how did you go about doing that?

Hi! I'm only about 15 min from Horseheads. I know someone who lives in Horseheads and have chickens so double check your area. I'm not sure if they live in the town or village.

I'm going through the steps to support chickens in the town of Elmira, they aren't allowed in the city. I'm meeting with the planning board Monday and I've written up a whole report and stats on ordinances and all the benefits of having chickens so let me know if I can help.

What time is the meeting on Monday? Do u need extra support? I may be able to swing down there. I can wear my "I love chickens" shirt.

This is a planning board meeting where they are writing up a new ordinance. At the initial town hall meeting they had written an ordinance banning chickens, bees, rabbits, etc, tons of people showed up saying they can't not allow chickens! Basically the town board had no idea so many people had chickens.

The second meeting was smaller where my neighbor showed up and was super rude to me. People were pretty shocked with his behavior. But at the end of that meeting the decision was made to try to come up with an ordinance to allow chickens, rabbits, bees and other livestock with certain stipulations.

As far as I know this meeting isn't open to the public and the code officer just invited me. But that you so much for offering!

I'm hoping it looks good for chickens that I'm invited and can see what ordinance they're thinking of writing up this time. I'm nervous!

Give them a copy of City Chicks. Lots of good info in there.

Sounds like it's very good for chickens that you have been invited! That's great! Hopefully they will listen to what you have to say and that it will be constructive meeting. Let me know if/when u need additional supportive people to show up and I'll be there. For now, sending good thoughts for chicken rights. Best of luck!!
