NY chicken lover!!!!

So I am in a quandry. I have a 7mos old black silkie rooster named Mumbles. He was handraised for the first 2 mos as he was the only one that hatched out of the 6 eggs I got. I put him in with my blue silkies I hatched out 6 weeks after him. Everyone got along fine until his hormones kicked in. He is sometimes mean to my blue girls, causing them to shriek and squeal and hide away from him. I, of course, am attached to him but cant stand it when he is mean to the girls. My blue silkie roo, little man, is bigger than he is but hasnt really challenged him. He is a gentleman to the girls and to me. Do I find Mumbles a new home or put him in isolation or put him down? It kills me that my sweet boy has mean traits. Any advice? I have learned that a hands off approach is best when raising roosters (but I didnt know at the time that Mumbles was a rooster!). If he has to go, I would like to find him a good home.

that was it..the summer was too short...I was right it was too short..

Hi folks,

Hope those in the south are safe and dry if not there homes. The creek has risen here too but no where near what my friends in the south are dealing with. The yard has dried out and I've let the birds out into the yard.

The roof of both runs are leaking and I sure need to finsih the tin roof on the one. Those blasted tarps don't last a dang season. What a rip off. I'm worried about the hoop coop. Won't be any money to put a more permanent roof on that thing for a while. Though they are easy to put together with little help they are not as cost effective as I thought.

I had asked on CL for hay or straw and lord have mercy if the straw offered I got are more than at the CM store! Why should I drive farther than the CM store and pay more per bale? Nutters!

Well I just noticed a response from Green Fire. Can't wait to see what they have to say,

Bye,

Rancher

Well it appears that Green fire has reduced it's guarantee to 6. That's good news for me I guess and they said we can do a mixed order.

On another note I got an e-mail from DW about a security threat. I think you can find it here. We have plans to fly to AL and quite frankly I'm concerned about flying. I wanted to drive down but she doesn't have enough vacation time.

What did you use to cut out the buckets? I have been going back to these pictures.
Ginny

Jig saw, I drew the hole outline on the buckets and husband cut them out.

Thanks

I might be able to help with hay, depending on how much you want.. I live over in Canastota, but work in North Syracuse, can always throw some in the truck or maybe the trailer.. we just put ours up and I know I have more than I need..

I was asking for about 10 bales but will settle for 5 if it's not to expensive. I suppose I'll have to rely on CM for the straw but then they are closer. I like to stack it in the run for the girls go play one in the winter time.
