NY chicken lover!!!!

@Myfivegirls, I did not intend to insinuate in anyway that you were or are a bad person. I am sorry my original comment was received that way. If you were closer I would gladly come and help if you wanted me to.

@everyone else, my second comment I had hope someone would have said "gee now I understand how he feels". I am sorry that you did not. I did not see anything I said as insulting to anyone. I'm sorry I was wrong. I did not think anything I said was condescending. Again I'm sorry I was wrong.

I keep forgetting that I am not among friends here. I may be wrong again but no one else offered advice or to help. At least I tried.

My offer of free hatching eggs still holds. Anyone near Myfivegirls if you remember she lost 60 hatching eggs if you can get them to her that would be nice.

Gardeners of the group, do any of you have a non-chemical way you deal with flea beetles? They are devouring my lettuce and cucumbers... I didn't have any issue with them last year. Hand picking them as I can, and have read that diatomaceous earth works well, so I'll use that after the rain stops.
Thinking I'll try some soapy water? Any other thoughts? Thanks!

I use Neem spray on my plants, but only in the evening when the bees are less likely to visit the plants.

Those of you with AB birds ... it would be cool if one of you likes them enough to also become a breeder :)

Their blue gene is different than the CCLB - and if you keep a consistent line - we can work together on them :)

Just saying.

For Marans - yep - nothing to do but figure that they are close to what your others are - but of course you can't see any blood rings or non-developing ones. Just sit back and wait ! Or at least - that is spoken from my vast month of experience. HA HA HA HA

I plan on breeding them. I'm going to find a separate line of them to add in. Just a bit of diversity in the lines. I would love to work with you

Excellent !!!!

We will have to get together then - and talk about the way to keep that blue gene pure and still work on egg color ! :) There is a group that will share fertile eggs and often roos in order to keep diversity in the line - but still keeping that special blue gene as pure as possible :)

So excited ! Most are in FL, CA, MI ... way too far to drive to exchange roos or hens ....

Night hen move went off fine ! I even was able to pull those eggs and replace with the ones I want her to hatch out - she didn't even peck at me ! Good Girl - she is one of the two I call Raven (identical sisters) from my Marans that Baking hatch out for me a few years ago.

She looked a wee bit upset for one second when all the old eggs were pulled - but settled immediately when I pushed a few under her and then all I had to do was put the rest in front of her - all tucked away in a few seconds .... :)

Whew. Now I know I will at least have chicks for myself this year ! :)

DH spend the day yesterday cutting wood to fit above and to the sides of the dog crate to make sure she would feel cozy - and I guess it worked ! :) She is very happy in the back of the large crate with fresh shavings and her own food and water dish - but she hasn't eaten yet.

Beer Can Exactly on both counts.

Arkansas Blue is a long name :) So I use AB

Whiting True Blue is similar - I noted when they first came out the hatchery said the eggs could be blue or green - like an EE .... then they said blue .... but from all the research I've done - if they got the blue gene that is like CCLB - then they can't rule out the green color. and the blue tint can be mixed with green tint.

So I am VERY curious to know people's real world experience with this Whiting Blue to see if they are holding true and if they get any throw backs and how many.

Anyone here get any Whitings ????
