NY chicken lover!!!!

Well, my peafowl hatch was successful and I got two IB chicks, I'm not sure if I posted about them here. But I was worrying a little that they would bother the neighbors in two years' time when they start to call (if they're male). But yesterday I was out in the yard taking care of the chickens when from the closest neighbor's place, the ones I was most worried about bothering, I suddenly hear, yep, a peacock calling. It's a very recognizable sound, sounds like something right out of the tropics. So anyways guess I don't have to worry about bothering them, lol. Of course they also keep chickens, ducks, and guinea fowl, and I think turkeys, so had I thought on it it probably wouldn't have bothered them much anyway.

Waiting for summer .....I currently have 5 broodys I dont know where im going to put them when the chicks start hatching ..
so far 5 have hatched today ...Pics tomorrow ....
Candled last night a few did I mention that. EE's of course are doing well. Tossed three. Most hens have about 8 eggs each or more.
Due around the end of the month. I'll be taking early chicks to the brooder til I decide if I want hens to take them back.

Stayed at a hotel in San Antonio once that had a pea fowl on the grounds. You can deal with the call if you're normal. I think some folks just like to whine. I'd get Guineas if I were brave but I don't want to push it with the neighbors. Also if winters were shorter and I had an easy time of getting chicken sitters.

Rain today so I have to find indoor work or go crazy. There's always something to do around here. Gotta new cordless screw driver for fathers day.

TTFN,

Things can be iffy when you don't know someone well. Lots of chicken folks don't know chicken breeds. Some don't care. Just us chickens snobs.   A hen that lays an egg is as good as any other I suppose. Can't taste the difference.

For your sake Runt, I hope it's girl.  If not come and see me. I've got six hens on eggs and if each hatches out five I'll be happy, but I won't be keeping them all. I don't know why hens gotta wait so long in the season to want hatch.
it is a boy but why u want to see me

I don't expect to keep all the chicks that hatch. If any hatch, so some will have to go. I've given away or sold chicks cheap. I'd rather that than let myself become overwhelmed with chickens I can't take care off. Now if someone is willing to trade all the better. Lord knows there's always work to do around here.

Stay tuned chicks should start hatching around the end of the month.

Have chicks no broody hens ..TRY THIS from facebook

That's a neat idea. Though how do you get them to show the chicks how to scratch all the food out of the feeder and scratch junk into the waterer.

Lord have mercy sometimes I think it's a waste of money and extra work having a hen brood.

When you're done you can use them to dust the cob webs off the ceiling.
