NY chicken lover!!!!

can any of you identify that breed.

My guess would be Welsummer.

And I think I'm gonna need you guys to talk me down from *gulp* squirreling up all winter to buy another coop and getting meat birds. I am so disappointed in the last few store chickens that I've gotten, they don't taste like anything. I go out of my way to order specality seasonings that are just magic by themselves and yet, they do nothing for the sad, sad things we get from the grocery store. I'm thinking that it's a ton of work, money, etc. etc. etc.........do home raised really taste that much better?

I raise my own freedom rangers specifically for meat along with the occasional cockerel that hatches from my layers. We haven't had store bought chicken in over a year now. The rangers I have raised out to between 5 and 8 pounds dressed in 12-13 weeks. I did two consecutive flocks of 50 birds this year. I buy them from a farmer close to me that gets them from a hatchery. He orders 10-15,000 chicks at a time which allows him to get them at a huge discount that he passes on to his customers. He also does all of our processing in a state inspected facility. Overall, my total costs including fuel costs for 4 trips to his farm and back, plus processing costs were $2.25 and $2.39 per pound. The average weights were 6.93 and 6.45 pounds for both flocks. I feed them free choice Blue Seal multi-flock which is a higher protein feed the entire time. For what I'm getting, I think it is very competitive with any grocery store. Mine free range in a 1/2 acre paddock, but are in a 8x24 coop/run at night. We really like the flavor and are able to get 2-3 meals from a single bird, depending on how hungry the kids are. As for the amount of work, most of it has been spent on construction. If not for that, I only need to spend about an hour per day total with the birds working, although I spend much more than that just because it's relaxing.

Why EE? It has no muffs, the legs aren't green, and it has a single comb. She got these in a surprise package from McMurray, I believe.

Lol :-D
You got me thinking. My EEs, only two have muffs, but all their legs are green.
The wellie/EE crosses I figured I'd get a darker olive green eggs, run more a brown greenish. Maybe it's cause they have yellow legs Lol! :-D

Lol, there are no real requirements for EEs since they're mixes, but nothing about that bird says EE to me so I was wondering why people were thinking that.
