NY chicken lover!!!!

Knew I saw La Fleche somewhere here in NY so I searched back on this thread, 8-2014 someone on craigslist in Akron had seven hens and a rooster for sale for $45. Not sure if they were hatchery stock. Might be possible someone has them not far from here. Interesting breed, if I could have every breed I've ever wanted Lol they would be one of them. The French rate them better than Breese actually as far as a table bird.
Not sure about that hatchery, never heard of them, the name Duane Urch sounds familiar though, quick google search I find nothing but seems like I've heard the name at some point as a breeder or shower or had his own lines of birds IDK?
Sand Hill Preservation Center also has La Fleche, not sure of their quality and no hatching eggs and looks like they're sold out of them till end of May.

I did some digging on here and found this:

Sandhill has such an antiquated ordering system to their benefit that I almost can't bring myself to get a check or money order and mail in the slip in the year 2017. Mostly because My sister has tried to order la fleche from them before and it took about half a year (or maybe it was even longer) to hear back and even longer to arrange for money to be returned as that was the only bird my sister wanted from them at that time. from what she said it sounded like a hassle but I might have to go with sandhill if I cant find any other option.

Hi all....Its been quite a while since I was on last. I like to come on to see how everyone is doing. Something happened a couple of days ago that still has me shocked. Ive been a chicken mom for 7 years (this time) and I went out to feed my chickens and everyone of them was dead. Feathers and birds were scattered all over the coop. I still can't believe what I saw. Tomorrow morning my grandson and I are building a weasel trap. If I want to have chickens again, I need to be sure that I can keep them safe. In the spring, I'll go around the coop burying hardware cloth. Some were 7 years old. We've never had predator problems outside of the neighbors dog. Be alert. Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't.

So sorry for your loss

@baunlee I was able to find five breeders for you listed on the livestock conservancy site, here is the link. I don't know anything about their stock so you'd want to contact them but I thought it'd be a good starting place for you.

@Sally8 I am so sorry that you lost all your chickens :hugs

My experience with Sandhill wasn't the best, but I got my birds, and a refund for the one's they didn't send.
They had a max order on white giants at 10 and min order from them is 25, so I had to pick another. They did reply to my email asking about white faced white spanish (let me know they were unavailable for that yr) they did answer my many phone calls when I did not hear back from them after being mailed a confirmation date on delivery for the white giants and black and blue langshans and it was going on two months afterwards... They just wanted to keep pushing the date of delivery further into the yr, I didn't want young stock too late in the yr, don't like having young little birds when cold is a coming.
After I realized the problem was supplying the langshans I let them know my main concern was the giants and I'd be willing to work with them on any other breed they DID have available if it meant I was going to get my chicks. They sent the ten giants and one langshan, those they charged me for, the rest were free packing peanuts red sussex and one manx rumpy, so I guess I can't complain.
Funny thing was they insist they will only send 25 chicks, I got 21 I think it was? Said 25 on the box, don't know if they miscounted or a few escaped in transit Lol! I didn't bother complaining beings half of them were free anyway.
I don't think I'll ever order from them again unless it's for seeds. WOW! their varieties of sweet corn seeds is just unheard of, same with sweet potatoes.

Hello! So very sorry for your loss. Sounds devastating! Keep us posted when you are ready to start rebuilding your flock. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to help u out.

I got some nice chicken themed items for my birthday today! I got an "Exotic Chickens" coloring book for adults. I also got a cute little rooster statue and while not actually chicken themed I got some photo lights for my light box so I can take great chick pictures this year :)

The chickens meanwhile are not enjoying the cold. Luckily it's supposed to warm back up at the end of the week.
