NY chicken lover!!!!

I had no idea that losing my awesome rooster would throw me back into Morehens Disease. :/
In the past 24 hours I have considered spending hundreds of dollars for quality Brabanters, Marans, and Ameraucanas. Uh oh.

I know what you mean. I had 0 chickens and said let's get some silkies for the kids for now. But I can't have chickens and not have good layers. So some mixed auctions. More eggs and more chicks. Don't forget ducks. I have 24 silkies, 32 other chicks. An order of 12 more chicks plus duck eggs. And I don't even feel like I've scratched the surface of what I want. I know half will be boys plus predators . So basically I need more. I did find someone who is going to take the white Marans chicks for $25 each. I have 5 so it looks like I will have money to put toward more chicks or coops.

This is my story....This fine fellow is Rudy. He is a cochin x blue silkie Cockrell. I was told since fall that Rudy was a he. Well, this chicken momma said "no way! I never heard it crow". Nevermind the prominent walnut crest. I would not have it! Then, this morning I caught "him" doing the deed! I was crushed! That **** prominent walnut crest was suddenly a beacon. Yup. Plain. As. Day.
Geez......what do I do now?
Well, first thing was a name. Obviously that sub conscious would let me figure it out until today. His name is Rudy. Fitting, I think he is quite handsome.
Now, since he is mingling with my silkie roos, do I want to have a whole hatch of crosses?
Do I rehome him to a good family and get while the getting is good?
Would anyone be interested in him?
Any and all opinions are welcome.

Hey chicken lovers! I am new to the forum and the awesome world of chickens!

This year I want to start a flock on ten acres. I have read plenty of books and watched so many videos. I am ready to start!
I have taught myself many different thing before. With that experience of self teaching I know nothing is better than first hand knowledge and experience!

That being said, I am looking for some one I can buy chicks from thats not to far from me. I am exactly in the middle of Hudson and Albany on the east side of the river.
I am looking for a good flock of brown egg layers, dark layers, olive, blue and green. Not concerned about meat birds and want more eggs for my input. Free range savvy is a plus for safer foraging and pasture delicious eggs.

I am really hoping to find some one I can learn from and talk to as well. Let me pick your brain and tell me some good local places for materials I might need, show me your chicken set up and talk about problems etc.

Ive been to a few small chicken keepers but I want to see a breeder or a no cage (minimum) egg producer.

From your knowledge I know I can give the chickens the best, happiest, and most delicious life possible!

Thanks in advanced!

Occasionally this will happen. I suggest feeding vitamins and minerals before harvesting eggs to hatch. Too it could be a line to close to breed.  If you can find another line. Even cross in some Light Sussex.

I have Big Delores and wish I'd gotten a rooster for her. She's a good size and broody mother. I'm not sure if it's to late to do so. I do like her for her size.

Did you find birchens? I'm going to do 1 large hatch setting 4/25. I've been pricing out shipped eggs and found this. https://www.laurelmeadowsfarm.com/prices-and-availability
I may have missed it if you mentioned it already.
If I get any I'll keep you in mind.

Hi! I'm from Erie PA and was wondering if there's anyone in North Western NY that might have a few female ducks they'd like to sell. Preferably adults. Hoping to find Rouen or Campbells. But Mallards would help too. Have way too many boys and my poor girls are getting beat up. Going to try and separate them but they definitely don't like it!
