NY chicken lover!!!!

Someone was looking for blue copper Marans?? Take a look at www.rarebreedauctions.com
I've been checking the site but I really can't justify spending that much money. Especially since if I sell of those I don't want I won't recoup the money invested. General backyarders don't seem to care that much to pay.

Last year I couldn't even get anyone to trade for 14 chicks. Two were lavender too.

On the site for the Small Farm/Homestead thing was a posting for a couple who run a processing place in Canastota. I may look into that and make a yearly trip when I downsize.

I have read the description of the fair. Morrisville had a chicken show that I went to last year. Nice set up. I'll have to consider going.
As for splash, anytime someone adds blue genes to their flock they have a chance of getting splash, which basically double dilutes the black and turns them whitish with black splashes. If I order from her and hatch I'll let you know what I get so you can pick out some favorites.
I sat up for hours last night trying to decide about hatching this year. Horsekeeper's offer definitely helps me deliberate options.

Some splash are pretty birds. Splash would be very handy in selling guaranteed blues also, a black X splash mating is the only one that gives 100% blue offspring.

Yes indee! I finally am getting the genetics thing into my brain. I found a really great article on genetics that makes it easier to understand: www.scratchcradle/wordpress.com/ genetics-mini-series

, so I'm very excited.....

Once upon a time I wanted a few hens for eggs. I thought 4 would be enough but quickly decided 6 would be best. Next thing I know I have 8 + a rooster + I want two more breeds (a few chick's of each) + breeding my own flock= I have a problem and can't stop wanting more chickens.
