NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi All, so glad to have found this local board. We gleefully consider ourselves newbie urban chick magnets. We have a 12 week old Buff Orpington rooster and he's a bit of a jerk. Fortunately, the neighbors haven't complained since he found his voice 2 weeks ago, but that's not the problem. He's going after the hens like crazy! Will his behavior improve in time? Is he just a belligerent teenager? I have no problems putting him in the freezer, but if it's something he'll 'outgrow' then he deserves a chance. He's in 'solitary confinement' in the coop/run so the girls can roam in peace during the day. This is our first season with birds, so it's all new. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi everyone. I hope all's well. My firstborn graduated middle school. He had me busy with concerts (he's in the eighth grade chorus), ceremonies, and such. I can't believe he's heading to high school already. I don't know where the time went. I had a really nice time at chickenstock and I look forward to next year's. I currently have the pleasure of taking care of three small gardens. There's my tiny backyard, my mom's larger yard around the corner, and I joined a community garden about twenty five minutes away. Between those and my critters, I've been kept busy. Now that school's out, I have to come up with innovative ideas to keep the kids off the electronics. That includes signing them up for this, that and the other class and program and event. Of course that means I'll be shuttling them around too. The NYC Parks Department offers lots of free events, activities, sports clinics, etc. I even signed myself up for a swimming class! But that's done by lottery so we'll have to wait and see. Well, that's my story. I hope I can come on more often.

Just when you think you've seen it all. UGH

:sick so I have a chick that I found in the coop yesterday. The moms hatched it but then just left it laying there. I think they helped the chick out of the egg too soon because I saw moms pecking at it earlier after it had pipped. I just let them be figuring they know what they are doing. I took the chick after finding it wet and alone and quickly realized it had splayed legs and curled toes. I brought it inside and made something to help its legs.

He was doing fine and I gave him some water with nutridrench in it. WELL then this morning I look at him and :sick it seems all this neon yellow stuff was in the cup and a red liver shaped ORGAN.

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT/GOING ON/WHY WOULD A FULLY ALIVE AND FINE CHICK SUDDENLY PASS AN ORGAN (is it an organ, what could it be)/ What is the yellow stuff?!?

I have a VERY strong stomach and this actually made me gag hard.

Any advice is appreciated xox

Hi everyone, I have red and silver partridge Silkie chicks and a red Pyle (5 chicks total)for sale. I was growing them out to do a partridge sizzle project pen but after some thinking I don’t have room for 3 pens right now and going to stick with just my paints and blues. If interested PM me I don’t ship but will to drive a reasonable distance.

I'm so sorry. Did you post this in the Emergency Forum?
Someone there might know more.

Just wanted to give you guys an update. The little chick didn't make it. Sad since she was a perfect looking marans chick. I've determined that the navel didn't close and the liver came out through that hole. I have photos of the organ that came out if anyone is interested - - - SUPER gross though!!

Hope everyone has a happy 4th of July. Drive safe and keep your phone charged for late night friends who might need help.

Tangent but summer family related:

Sorry to hear about that little chick, after your hard work to help it live.
Hot and humid again here nr Buffalo, have been feeding the chickens little ice cube size pieces of frozen watermelon several times a day to help them stay cool and hydrated, putting frozen bottles of water in the coop at night to give off cool air, and they are all under their shade roof areas during the day.

Happy 4th to all, quiet day at home for us, by the air con unit!

yesterday a baby racoon just casually walking with my flock of chickens in the shade. He was very casual about it and they casually walked away from him- even a mother with 3 babies whos free ranging them and raising on her own. I wonder if it's taking a daily trip to the mulberry tree. I panicked because the situation was so bizarre and I actually killed it. It was a baby baby. How young do racoons just live on their own like that. So odd. I'm assuming there are more nearby.

Ok folks. This what I have left. I'm looking to make more room for growouts.
I have a light Sussex pullet four months
A black copper marans pair ( boy & girl) 2 months old
A black copper marans rooster and hen, I may be willing to make a trio.
Several straight run blue and black Marans
A few straight run olive egger
Located in Chenango county and I can meet up within reason.
