NY chicken lover!!!!

Looking for someone to chicken/turkey sit for just two weekends. My regular chicken sitter just changed her plans. I live in Ridge, Long Island. It would be for the 10, 11, 17 and 18 - opening up, food water and clean. Will pay $10 day.
Thanks, Karen

Hello all! I am in Hilton NY - just outside of Rochester... I have 20 chickens, 1 is a rooster (Roo) and I am planning on breeding - I may need tips, these are just egg layers for me- I just got them this spring. This is so fun!!!! I so love animals and fresh eggs!!!
Welcome! There's always someone here for advice - just remember that one solution doesn't fit all situations :)

Due to lack of people available to come we didn't have it in the spring and summer was very busy. If there is interest we could have one this fall, in not We will try again for next spring. I'm still willing to have it at our place. :D
I finally got my surgery last week, so I don't expect I will be running around anytime soon :) If you hold up for next year I'll be there:)

I have a question: Just received 3 chickens 1 year old. They have
been free range....since we were having problems losing our chickens we just have them in the coop with a run. One of the new
chickens is laying...two cream crested legbars are not laying. Not
being able to free range....may be the reason? Or what could be
the reason for them not laying. Thanks Aria

Perhaps they need more time to settle in, they can be persnickety as you know :)

OK...they have been here since August 1. They gave us 2 eggs the second day and we thought they were happy. Thanks for your reply. We are looking forward to the blue eggs they lay. Thanks again, Aria

Hi everyone!

I haven't been in here in a while. Long time, no see!

Well, sadly I think we have a rooster. The sad part is 1. my neighbors aren't happy and 2. while I thought we had a rooster when they were younger 2 years ago, he hasn't started crowing until...LAST WEEK. Has anyone had that happen before?

So, this means I need to rehome him BUT I have to catch who it is. I kind of wonder if I have TWO but sometimes the hens look alike. So I have to figure out which one is crowing.

ALL my chickens are so tender and sweet. I'm really upset about this. Had he not been so vocal for my neighbors to complain, I would have still kept him. Thing is, I don't want him to go for meat.

Would anyone local to CNY want a rooster if we can figure out which one is crowing (and I have my guess). He's a smaller white guy if I'm right and he is not mean at all. In fact, hopefully he wouldn't be picked on by another bigger guy.

I'll put up a picture in a little while in hopes people can help me figure out who is who. There's an Australorp that seems to remind me of a rooster too but I don't want to give away the wrong one. They ALL are my sweeties. It's breaking my heart to have to give one away. But I'd only give him to someone who will love him. lol Any takers?
