Listen folks, I've got five chicks I really don't want to deal with this winter. Plus I may take a trip to AL in December so if you want to come and get them they're yours. A couple of Dels and an EE and two I'm not sure of. I know I'll get in trouble for giving chicks away but such is life. See if I keep them it means setting up the pen in the back room again and it gets messy and quite frankly I just don't want to clean the mess up again. Not to mention they'll be there for a few months. Might even be laying by late winter which means I gotta set up a nest box. I only got them cuz of the darn broody hen. I'm just to old to want to deal with it.

Well that would be nice. I'm just off 481 south. Send me a pm or e-mail.

ODY587 - That's a nice coop and I could use it. I just won and auction for 10 Birchen Marans, Green Fire line. Not directly from them but their line anyhow.

Patti - it would be nice if you took the chicks I have. Yes free. I'm not the least bit excited about the Birchens.

I won't tell DW what I paid unless I absolutely have to. No half truths mind you , just if she asks how much I gotta fess up.

Makes me want to build more pens, but then I start to think about hauling water out there twice a day and standing in the coops until the chickens have a chance to drink the unfrozen water and get a little snack. Well, ok, two coops is enough.

bring them hot water. They enjoy it, and it takes longer to re freeze

I bring them warm water. You are right, it does take a little while to freeze unless it's thirty below out. I think I may have to make the water bottles little sweaters this year.
