No snow in the forecast but this morning I went out and everyone's water was frozen.

Can't have all my babies with icy water, they like the nice warm water when it is cold out. For the chickens I use cookie tin heater bases (I have 4 and have used them for 5 years) and the goats have a big heated horse bucket. It is nice that if I happen to sleep late, like 8:30am

, I know they will be able to have a drink if they are thirsty.

I have 4 leghorn hens in with a silver ameraucana roo and a delaware roo, if you would be interested. We have 3 of their eggs in the NYD hatch that we set this afternoon.

What I would like to end up with is a bird that lays blue eggs, and is prolific! What color eggs do delawares lay? I do not care what the offspring look like..just looking for some good layers of colored eggs! So maybe I am interested!!

I've got a few young EE's . 1 just started laying and she lays an egg I'd best describe as olive/blue. She has a Sumatra roo with her in the pen. I'm hoping the other 2 EE's in the pen lay the same ish color eggs. Then the big experiment..... hatching them and seeing what color egg the offspring lay.

I have two EE's that look a little different from one another. One lays a more green egg, the other a more blue one. Today - the one who lays the blue one laid the most AMAZINGLY beautiful blue egg. It's almost like if the light blue BYC background were a little darker mixed with grey. I should try and take some good pics. It's such a pretty egg, we're going to try and blow it out and save it.

Cool and Congrats! I have a Blue Wheaton and she has finally started to lay and it is a very pretty blue...diff for sure then the OE...ones a pretty green, one more blueish and then a tanish/green.. I am thankful for them as my chickens are not laying...we have had lights on them for a while and did the cabbage thing..they are still eating the cabbage which they love, pumpkin is almost gone...I just die when I go by a garbage and there is a pumpkin setting there...it is like compost it or feed it to a chicken!

, but not all think like that or have chickens.

I really would like it to snow!!! I so don't want a green Christmas.

I left a jiffy way egg scale up on the computer last night hoping my DH would catch the subtle hint. If not this post is another one. Santa I would like one of these!

I pull over and grab the pumpkin. I have lots of birds that love pumpkin.

I had the heated chicken waterers up for about a week, but just got the goat / sheep buckets up this weekend. No really sure what we are going to do for the ducks. Any ideas?

Our broody Silkie (Mama Bear) has hatched four babies now. (One did not make it past the first day

). Just found another one in the nesting box this morning!
