NY chicken lover!!!!

My Birds are the same way. They see the White Stuff and there is 7 heads trying to look outside, but not actually go outside. Funny Critters.

I got my incubator on Friday, waiting until Sometime in the next few weeks to do a test hatch.

I have a digital Therm on the Incubator (1588) and a remote probe. They are about 2 degrees different (Humidity on both is about right. Which should I use? Should I adjust the temps on the Bator up or just leave it?

Have a good day all.

Chris
I would get a 3rd thermometer and use the 2 with the same temps. I had a digital thermometer/hygrometer that I got from Lowes. Totally off by 3-4 degrees which if you are measuring the weather is ok but not for hatching.

My birds don't want to step foot out of the coop when they see white on the ground. Silly chickens (maybe actually smart not wanting cold feet)!

my RIR's are like that. My Sumatra's on the other hand don't care in the least. They roam around in the snow like it is sunny and 90. Yeah, the heat doesn't bother them either. Nothing does weather wise. In my experience, with the different types of birds I have owned, Sumatra's are the easiest to raise.

I'm here,

Framac - I have the 1588 too and it runs fairly well. Don't freak if you get temps of 101.5 not a problem. I've had it run up and down and still things came out ok. The new PP has an NEW article on hatching and it's deals with them doing duck eggs too I think. I've not scanned it to the computer yet so can't send it on. It's not much help other than the first I have.

I do hope everyone hatching eggs has good hatch. I've plans to set eggs next week perhaps.

Featherz - becareful, don't fall on your bum.

On another note I believe I've have Coyote tracks in my drive. Nothing near the coops and they are headed away from the house, but I'm not sure where they originated in the area. Perhaps chasing a cat. I don't own a gun. I've been back in the woods but not seen anything like coyote tracks or fox either.

Well take care everyone,

Rancher

Rancher,

The Remote probe is reading lower than the incubator. Is 98.0 too low?

Regards,

Chris
When I purchased my incu I also bought the digital from Incubator warehouse. This is the only one I use. Now Don Schrider of ALBC and the expert said to average the two if you use more than one thermometer. A slightly higher temp is better than one to low. If I have not sent you my current copy of the Incubation article send me your e-mail and I'll send it to you. I wouldn't worry about the low temp just yet. You have time to bring it up.

I've found that sometimes chicks hatch early or late. All on the same setting. I've had to grab chicks out after the three days and wait for the others to finish. My last hatch went for four days.

Featherz: Good luck on the interview. Our chicken path is a bit icy too, but the chickens don't use it. More ice on the way tonight. *sigh*

Framac: Hope you do well with your incubater. I hatched out 3 out of 3 eggs last year. My incubator is Doris. She's a good mama too. :)

Tabs: My chickens in the small coop hung out on the doorstep and only thought about stepping in that strange stuff. The chickens in the big coop waded right out in it and were pecking around in it today.

Coop cleaning afternoon today. I pick all week and put it in a tub in the coop and then do a good cleaning once per week and take a few trips up the hill to the compost pile. First year we had an appreciatable compost pile. Hope the garden likes it.

Snowing now, but that is better than ice.

One of my roosters is out there crowing at the snow. I guess he thinks he can stop it if he crows enough. How sad is he going to be when it doesn't work?

I fell on my butt today.. too bad my butt isn't as padded as it used to be. OW. Anyways, I now have the chains for my shoes, so things are much better. Job interview seemed to go well, but I think I was a little too 'me'. I am happy where I am now, so it's not a big deal either way. =)
