NY chicken lover!!!!

Good Morning All; I know I'm very new to this group but I just have to say that I love coming on and reading every ones posts.Does make me feel good.I love all the photos I went over to the Foxwoods casino yesterday. I met my son there. He came down from Boston. I took the ferry from Orient point. I went over early so I could spend the day. When I went to the desk to check-in the woman agent was so rude to me that it really was a terrible way to start my day. What Is wrong with people??? I did nothing wrong to warrant that response from her.Yes I was the BIG winner of the day; I got to see my son for a few hours. Thanks for letting me be a little part of your group.

Queen, some people are just nasty. At least you got to see your son.

Have a good day everybody.....snow, snow go away. I usually like snow, but it is February...time to time about spring!

DH is going to build me a sturdy brooder so chicks can move to the garage! yay!!

Love having you! I also come on to this thread first to ses what is going on with everyone else.

Rude people bother me. Really, you are getting a paycheck and if you work with the public and are a "bitter" person you should probably get a different job. I work at a school and some of the employees really don't like kids.

Anyway, today we are having DD's birthday party. Our whole family (5) plus 3 of her friends. Going to have lunch at Johnny Rockets in the mall then go see Journey 2. She is excited. We don't normally do birthday parties but she has only 3 friends coming, it's the size of our family that is cost prohibitive and we all like to go together.

We have just a dusting of snow, nice. Have a great day everyone!

I vagely remember pluckers being discussed a few pages ago. After watching video's I see myself building a wizbang type plucker on the cheap. That thing is awsum!

6 chicks out this morning, a day early and about 15 pips, hoping to get at least 25 out of the 34 eggs......Drive safe people, the roads are decent my way, but the dirt roads were not great...

As a side note, this is my first time hatching in a long time, and first time with decent tools, Good incubator, ther/hydrometer. This morning Humidity was up over 80 percent so I removed a plug and it eventually dropped to 67%. I put the plug back in and in went to over 80 in a short period of time. I took it out and left it out, and am hoping that is the correct course of action. Is that was most people do during the hatch?

Framac

Framac, congrats on the hatch and to you too vm! The babies are absolutely adorable!! Yep, you can leave the plug out if you need to, sometimes I just take the plug turn it over and slide it over the hole to adjust that way if I need to. As long as the humidity is between 60-70 you should be good to go!

Vmdanielson-CR's are columbian rocks and rancher's been waiting some time to get them, so I'm very happy that his are pipping!!

Rancher-what's the morning update?? Are you glued to the window of that bator? LOL Did you get any sleep last night?? Come on, inquiring minds wanna know!!

Queen--welcome to the group! I work with the public every day and there is always at least one nasty person who comes by. However, I figure that whatever you do in this life, it always comes back to get you so I just smile and tell them to have a nice day. They will get theirs in the end.

Framac--I had the same thing happen to me at hatch time and followed the advise of the person who gave me the eggs. I let the humidity drop to around where you are at right now, maybe a little lower, and had a much more successful hatch. The first time I tried it was too high and the chicks never made it. Heartbreaking but a lesson learned. I would leave the plug out and see how things go. Keep an eye on the humidity and dont open the bator if you are in lockdown. Good luck and keep us posted on the cheeps!

I was right. After shoveling out the driveway I went outback and knocked all the snow off the top of the run and then opened up the pop door. The girls took one look, backed up, gave me the stinkeye and proceeded to bawk at me in full chorus their displeasure. Really? Why am I to blame? DH gets all the glory and I am the bad guy. Sigh. Mean Marge finally went out on the top of the ramp and jumped down to a nonsnowy patch and ran under the coop. Everyone else followed and as I walked away, they all stuck their heads out and continued bawking at me. Ungrateful wenches! No scratch today!

Queen - don't let it get to you. Perhaps she was having a bad day and something was bringing her down. I used to take a deep breath and say out loud, "shake it off". We all have down days now and then and it may have been hers. I try to not let them "hang" their bad mood on me and me pass it along as I go through my day. Or you could just shoot her and that will work to make you feel better too.

Just a little postal humor.

CR's are Columbian Rocks. I got eggs from a friend in GA. Not a common breed since they are white and not the "IN" breed. So far 3 have hatched and few more have started. I have 9 total so a few more to build on would be nice. So far 15 from 25. I'll give them til tomorrow night when I absolutely have to take them out. I may leave any still working, just cuz I'm to cheap and want to.

I will post pics.

Mad - Everyone here knows I used to work for the postal service so they don't mess with me. Tell your DH, some folks retire and sit, folks who have outside interests have a life. People call and say I called but you weren't home and I say "yes i was , I was outside working in the yard or doing dishes or what ever". or "Your right I wasn't home, I was out living my life". I've heard alot of old people say alot of things but I've never heard them say "I wish I'd work more overtime".

Just a dusting of snow today. Not big deal.

Take care, Love ya,

Rancher

Just some unsolicited advice. If I have not sent you the article from PP on hatching pm me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you. It helped me and have no doubt it will help you too.

Now in your case if your just starting out, lift the lid up high and let some of that humidity out. Don't worry MOM gets up off her eggs at least once a day.

Trylin - I took a pill so I could sleep. Otherwise I'd be up all night. I sat in the office yesterday nearly all day crocheting my squares and watching Picket Fences on the computer. What a crappy show. No wonder it got canceled. It stars Lauren Holly apparently she couldn't act them either.
