NY chicken lover!!!!

You people are all so knowledgeable! How do you find out all these things? I am on the next road over from Hop City Rd. In fact the back of our property almost butts it. I've been wanting raw mild for a time. My kids all have intestinal issues. Maybe these products would be tolerated better. I am so excited!!!!! Thank you soooooo much featherz!!!!

Whoops! I was so excited about getting raw milk that I misspelled in. Meanwhile our eggs seem to be incubating OK even though I worried when I couldn't check them on the snow day we had off. Temp is holding constant. Humidity fluctuates but I'm trying to figure out the right amount of water to add without putting in too much. The kids were very excited. Even though we talked about the days and counted them, their sense of time is still not there. The next day they asked if they were going to hatch today! One even saId, "I see a crack!" Ahhh, children.`

Thanks to you guys, I now know that TS has chicks right now. We're going to head over there in a minute. I said we're just going to "look" and my BF says "It would be nice to have some little ones." My mouth dropped because he's not usually into chicken math.

Just wondering stonykill how you "do in" your hens. Do you do it yourself or have someone do it? We have no problem doing the roosters but most of the hens are "friends".

I know I'm not Stonykill, but your post made me think. If anyone in reasonable driving distance to me (Sullivan County) ever needs help processing birds, I did my own for the first time last summer and I'd be glad to help. I use a killing cone (traffic cones with the tips lopped off work great) and it's a very quick process.

I kill the roosters only. I do it myself. Last year was the 1st time I did this since I was a teen. 25 years or so ago we raised 30 turkeys a year for meat. Plus I hunt so I'm used to it. I now have a scalder. Seriously thinking of building or buying a tub plucker. plucking is the worst part of the entire job.

My girls are my girls. They get to live. Even the freaks and ones who don't lay at least 5 eggs a week.

Love your photo happyhensny!!! Soooooo cuuuuutttteeee!!!! I hope the eggs I got from you will hatch and look sooo cute. I will let you know after I candle them next Wed. or so.

Can you take a picture of the cone sometime? I kinda of like a visual representation. Thanks for your help. My husband's family used to have a chicken farm way back in the 1950's so he remembered the process to some degree. We both read a little more on the subject and one day tried doing it. My husband seemed to have no problem slipping the feathers off after dunking the bird in hot water. Was not as big of a deal as I thought. I got the pleasure of cleaning them out and cooking them!

true, the feathers aren't bad if you are only doing a few. Try doing 30 turkeys in 1 day by hand. Uggg! Been there, done that.
