Framac: If you go to the Utica Craigslist site, there is someone who regularly advertises in the Farm and Garden section. He has pheasents and quail. I did see last year that he had Golden pheasents and I think Lady Amhurst for sale. Might be worth a look as he is in North Brookfield. (Of course, it could be a she instead of a he, but I didn't want to say they or it.

) There is an ad placed yesterday or today for the Brookfield place.

Also Menagerie Farm in Waterville has Ameraucanas. Might be worth checking if she/he has an extra Roo.

Muggsmaggee is her screen name on BYC. I have no idea what she may have for sale.

Hey---where did you guys find the 10 percent coupons for tsc??? I need one! Really bad! I have never seen them around here. OOOO---and the pics of the babies are sooooo cute! Now I really cant wait till mine come on april 3rd.

Ginny--I switch my chicks over when the bag is empty. That is usually around 8 weeks or a little longer. No sense in wasting feed, especially at these prices.

I am hoping it warms up and melts off the rest of this snow so we can start on the big coop soon. Have most of the materials but the snow is holding us up. Still moving the rest of the wood from the oak we cut down. Doesnt help that I am still sick with bronchitis and a sinus infection but it is getting better slowly. At least I wasnt hacking up a lung on my counter while waiting on the guests! hehe

My silkies still insist on laying in the run. sigh. I am running out of tricks to teach them where to lay. Hoping to get enough eggs to do a test hatch in two weeks. My hens are almost back to normal laying but I know that someone is not pulling her weight. If we could figure out which one, dinner would be served. However, to trapnest them at this point would probably upset them enough to put their egglaying off kilter again so I will let it go until the newbies start laying. That is why we are expanding, Henicillin, because our egg demand has exceeded out egg production! I've got a list of waiters for eggs and I need some for my own use.

Hope everyone else is staying well. Keep those baby pics coming!

Have you tried putting a clean soft nest box in the area they lay? And once they start laying in that box (A shoebox would work, they aren't that big a chicken) move the box closer and closer to the pop door? (Kinda like training a dog to pee outside, but in reverse) Oh and put something egg like in the box. Mine laid on the coop floor for months and I put the nest box (mine are moveable) where she laid. It took a few weeks, but she finally got the idea and "her box" is hung back on the wall

i'm in petersburg. About 45 min. from albany. This is a great thread.

And to the thread. Not only is the thread great, the people are great. Great ENABLERS!!! If you don't want to be constantly building more chicken space of various materials (cuz they'll tell you what materials to use LOL), LEAVE NOW!!! I mean it, they will talk you into more breeds. And more coops. And more kinds of poultry (think ducks, geese, turkeys) Oh and goats. Wait, some have horses too. RUN!!! You have been warned.

If you choose to stay around, and I hope you do, feel free to ask questions cuz these folks know just about everything. We even have a couple of folks who can find ANYTHING online....I think they have Google Prime or something on their computer, cuz I can never find the things they do as fast as they do.

So welcome and enjoy the company...I know I do.

It's a strange day here. We have four eggs in the fridge. Not four dozen - four. Of course, the ladies will take care of that tomorrow, but right now it looks, well, naked in there.

I am so jealous of all the new babies! My babies are in the scraggly ugly stage. I have too many chickens right now, so feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the good chicken fun. I got a hairbrained idea this evening to move the V-day babies out of the house so now they are in their dog crate with their ecoglow - in the barn with the NYD chicks (eek!). I put fencing around it and everyone has separate water and food so as long as no chicks squeeze out between the bars... I have my fingers crossed for tonight. Just couldn't take 'inside chicks' anymore. :p

Next job is to find homes for some of my older girls, hopefully all at once.

I have a rumpless quasi tufted araucana chick also, although mine is defective (but cute!). she/he/it has one tiny tuft on one cheek and the other one is on the top of its head!!

Thankfully i currently need more birds. i have seven coops with only two in use. i have 22 chickens and 40 eggs hatching.

Contact Featherz....she needs to rehome birds. LOTS of birds. She'll help you fill up those coops in a hurry. And you won't have to worry about your "hatch rate". She posts here frequently, so if you go back a few pages you'll find a post from her, mouse over her name and it will show a menu that includes " send PM" (I cheated, I looked to make sure I was giving correct info, this new forum still has me reeling with the changes) I don't know how much she wants for her birds, but I know she has some (read A LOT) to rehome. And I am pretty sure she has full grown birds too, not just chicks. (I want her perpetually broody hen tho cuz I don't have an incubator or the patience to brood chicks very often)

Edtied to add: Speak of the devil...she's right above this post
