NY chicken lover!!!!

Eggs? Thought you had enough chicks? Oh well, there's always room for more when you have your kind of land. You planning a "coop raising" any time soon?

Hahaha no, I am giving away most of the chickens in one coop and selling chickens in another to make room. Only doing the easter hatch and I am done for the year unless some disaster happens. I don't wanna end up on 'hoarders'. I only have 40 chickens tho, not counting chicks, which we all know don't count. :P

Anyone see one of the recent hoarders eps where the lady was hoarding her chicken eggs in her cabinets because she 'might hatch them' and 'well, they can't go in the refrigerator if you are going to hatch them!'.. They were rotting away in there and her poor incubator was under a pile o' stuff..

She only had 15 chickens, oddly enough..

How are you doing on eggs, Cass? Need any 'medium' eating eggs? My fridge is full. :P

OH,no any of those turkens!!! I did look to see if anyone has turken eggs for sale...but I don't like shipped eggs...Did you talk to the turkens about marking their eggs?

Oh no, all my NN are here to stay. =) They are all just under a year old and are in my big coop and those guys are staying. Plus I have three baby NN in the brooder/barn and more to hatch for easter. Sure you don't want a NN cockerel? I think two out of my three babies might be boys, naturally. I hate to bring those to auction cause the folks round here probably think they are too weird to buy. :P

I doubt I can mark the turken eggs.. I can just see myself chasing them around with a tube of lipstick hee hee. :P Their eggs seem to be a bit smaller than the others, so I hatched three out of four as NN last time around - my langshans are laying the gigantic eggs.

anybody here use nipple waterers? I have put one in the 3 week old chicks and while they are using it I am worried that they aren't drinking enough. In the AM then PM I put their old waterer back in with about an inch of water and they run over like they are DYING of thirst.(could be just a chicken thing "Look what I found!)
When I walk by I can hear them pecking at the nipple and getting water. It is a one gallon bucket with one nipple. Should they have another nipple or bucket. I do like the bucket. It stays so clean!!!!!

Thanks, Java!

One of my friends gave him to me. I know he has other roosters available, but I don't know if they all look like him. We had a rooster before I moved, but this guy is a million times nicer and I've seen him mate with his ladies already and he's not a jerk about it.

I can ask him if he has any others that are similar. I'll pm you once I find out.

I use nipple waterers 100% on all my chickens and never had one die of thirst. I will only add supplemental water if temp is going to be > 85 (probably don't need to, but I do anyways) and I also use heated bowls when it's going to be sub freezing for a while. I just changed all my bowls back to the nipple waterers and all my chickens are still frisky. :)

oh, and I don't know if it matters, but all my buckets have at least three nipples, even the tiny quart bucket I use for chicks. Make sure there's a hole in the lid to allow water to flow out the bottom.

Oh Yeah!!! I forgot those were the special ones....hmm....well, hmm...I am picking up some Sumantras this weekend....let me count my pennies and see what has hatched by the time I get there.
Out of the 12 D'Uccle eggs I originally set I have 10 fertile and 9 have hatched so far.

Today I ran into my chick enabler and she says someone in TX might want my B/B/Lav splash orpington Roo cause he's barred... Can you mail a 1yo roo that far?

12 Turkey eggs in bator today... adding chicken eggs on Sunday.

Yes, you can mail a live bird, expect to pay around $50 for shipping though and you need a special box (Horizon box)

Good luck! Wish I had room for a Araucana...hmm

Hoping to get a couple girls and a boy so I may have eggs in the Fall. Just sayin'!

Happyhensny: How is the new addition to the home? Any word from the PO?

I had some chicks hatch yesterday. A lot didn't make it due to the power being off for 6 hrs two weeks ago...I tried to keep them warm..

Since she was 15 hours after the guaranteed delivery time I called the Colonie hub and left a message with a customer service rep. She called me back the next day and REFUNDED THE ENTIRE SHIPPING! Almost $50! Sweet! Sending me a check, more bird money. Woot, woot!

Try to keep those pocket hand warmers on stock - - when the power goes out open a couple and set them in there. They do work in a bind. Sorry about your losses.

I can get my hands on some nice quality Australorp eggs!..in 21 days they will be chicks!? I may have Lav or blk orpingtons...HappyhensNY has some B/B/S hatch this week..I hope to see her next week...just sayin'

If you need Austrie eggs let me know and I will save some for you for Thursday. The Orps have not hatched yet, c'mon chickies! They were moving when I did lockdown.

Awww, that's sad...I really needed a dozen since I am giving some to Happyhensny's daughter. Well, I'll take the 10 and cry about it later.

No problem, you will have hatching eggs soon anyway.

Love my nipple waterers..everyone here uses them. Just add more nipples to the bottom of the container...I've got something like 30 chicks and a duckling and I've got 3 waterers with only 3 nipples..they're fine. Thriving actually! LOL All of my coops have nipple waterers too..no messy bedding!
