Rancher, I don't know what is "close" for you, but there is an auction Sunday in Sodus and one the following Saturday (7th) in Seneca Falls. I think those are both about an hour for you.

It had been freezing the night I got home, so any embryos would have been dead. We ate them for dinner tonight, so they were still "good" just not good for hatching.

I need to PU another hygrometer so I actually know what the humidity is in there, I have bought I dunno how many cheapy ones from Walmart and they've all died!

We should never underestimate eggs. I had a hen hatch two for two in the coop and the weather temps dropped below zero. While we've had no snow this year to speak of , I had a hen hatch six three of which were ducks through Jan/ Feb.

We know they have to get off once a day to do there business so they must be pretty hardy.

Hope you give them a go if it ever happens again.

The family emergency excuse is what gets to me. I need to look at it this way, if they think they need to lie to you then they can't be trusted and I don't need to deal with them anyways.

Now there was a time I'd agree but working at the PO I've heard plenty of reasons for needing that check on the street and not waiting for it to be delivered so I never doubt anything.

Once a women said she needed to take the dog to the vet and I figured she wasn't telling the truth. Then I read in the news that her DH had gotten drunk and went after her DD with a knife and when he couldn't get to her he stabbed her dog instead.

People are crazy I know.

I've been in this situation myself from time to time and I always feel offended when I'm not believed. Life does happen to us all. I figure I've got the chicks and they're safe for now so perhaps it wasn't meant to be.

Now I will tell you this true story of Bro. Frank. He got sick and I don't think there were to many who believed him after a time. What with this age of miracle cures surely the doctors can heal him right. ? And being a Christian man believing God surely God would heal him right? Sometimes we think if they'd just suck it up they'd get well right? They just don't want to get well? They're just looking for attention right? I've heard all the crap you know, being disabled. Even the doctors after a time seem to doubt. After all if their patients don't get well then they'd have to admit defeat right?

Well Bro Frank died this past week at age 52. I hope his family had his stone inscribed. "SEE I TOLD YOU I WAS SICK!"

So my point is I'd rather give them the benefit of the doubt. I never call them to see what happened. If they want to call me then fine but if they don't then I just assume they changed their mind.

I don't believe so, Rancher. I think one is Village Auction and one is Bush's. I have not been to Bush's before, but Village Auction usually has a good turnout. It is usually outside, but the weather is supposed to be pretty nice on Sunday.

Nah, I never call either, the excuse may be real or it may be fake, but better an excuse than nothing at all. I am happy they just told me they weren't going to show! =)

Hey, for those of you up Fort Drum way, I just saw there is an auction Apr 7 in Adams Center. It is a liquidation sale for a garden center (the Backyard Farmer...fitting, huh?). Just an FYI.

Well they did show and that was good. So I'm down 14 chicks which is better than driving to an auction and getting a dollar each and that just covering the gas to get there. I asked two each but sold them for one sixty. I'm saving by not having to deal with them. They only wanted twelve but I threw in the extras. I figure there's more where they came from.

Grey - I would like to go but the drive and gas makes such things cost prohibitive. What ever I might save in $$ will be used up in time and gas.
