NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm really starting to get discouraged on this whole Silkie search. I had finally found some hatcheries that would sell/ship small orders and then someone warned to not go with a hatchery, go with a breeder otherwise I would be disappointed. So now I'm looking around at breeders and have yet to find any close enough to my area where I could drive. So the few I have found that are at least in NY, I would still have them ship and it's looking around $55+ just to ship them. Not including the price of the bird!

So frustrating. So if anyone knows of any breeders that aren't too far from Syracuse, I really don't want it to be more than hour long drive. Hope that doesn't sound bad but if you knew how much time/money I've been spending in the car and in gas these past few months you'd know why I feel that way. LOL I really cannot wait to be living in our house up on the hill in farm country and have nothing to do all day but enjoy the sunshine and take care of some chickens!

You just need to be patient dear they're are plenty of people close by that have silkies. There is tgrlily down the road from me but she's not answering e-mails. I might stick a note in her mailbox for you and see what she has to say. Last I heard she was getting rid of all her birds due to allergies. Just let me know. PM me with contact info. Plus if there is a show at the fairgrounds you can meet folks there too.

Featherz, What is it you have for chickens?

I pretty much have one of almost everything. :) But I am rehoming a coop of nine chickens - mostly hatchery birds - because I've got a barn full of chicks that need to get out and get some fresh air! =) I still have two roos to rehome - I'll keep whichever one I can't convince someone to take. A very pretty black EE cockerel and a round rumpless araucana boy. (those rumpy chicks are like little footballs running around, so cute!).
Also was considering rehoming the hatchery production layer chickens in my front coop, but I doubt anyone would take them at almost two years old- and they are my favorites so I guess they'll just grow old here on chicken social security. :)

Have you tried MJ in Canastota? She usually has an ad on Craigslist. I've gotten chicks from her last spring & in January + March and had very good luck with them. She usually has a variety of colors. If you PM me I can send her phone number. These are some I got from her last spring...

Well, I know that has to be a load off your mind! Now you'll have room for those del babies you're gonna be hatching!!

yeah well don't forget your five coming too.

Folks I ordered Del chicks from Paul Harter and expect them next month. She's getting five and that will leave twenty. I only wanted fifteen but had to order twenty five.

a friend of mine who is a BYC member, but rarely posts has silkies. She is probably 1.5 hours from you however. If you pm me with your contact info I'd be happy to forward it to her.
