NY chicken lover!!!!

Glasshen, with regard to the fence, that will keep most of the "bad guys" out, but opossum and raccoon will have no issue scaling that. Although they are primarily nocturnal, I often see them in daylight hours. Just some food for thought. There is no such thing as a predator-proof environment...only predator-resistant. Eventually, a well motivated predator will find a way in. The goal is to make it not worth the effort.

Not sure where you are coming from, but there is a woman down in Beaver Dams (below Watkins Glen) that has nice Silkies.

I'm going to be living about 20 mins south of Syracuse. So I'm trying to find something close enough that doesn't require me to drive too far out. Unless someone wouldn't mind meeting half way if it was an hour or longer for me to drive out to. I drive 2hrs to Syracuse and 2hrs home every weekend, I'm going to be sick of driving by the time I get up there. LOL

I was thinking of getting java chicks from AJ Farms but because they are a hatchery, I decided to get black java eggs from Mr. Bowen and last night I put the eggs in the incubater so I can't wait to see how they do!!!!! I put myself on the list again for mottle java eggs too!!!! when they hatch and I get hens they will start laying in sept if anyone wants eggs or chicks!!!

Whew! My chickens are gone (the coop I was emptying) and it seems like they have a good place to go to. Always good to hear and my very loud rooster mohawk went with them. Still have Leo, my EE roo, and the two cockerels in the barn but Mohawk was an extra skittish roo. He 'alarmed' at everything, but at least he didn't attack anyone or anything.

Now I get to clean and repair that coop (one wall needs replacing due to water damage) and my barn chicks can go outside! I'll miss the green and blue eggs, but hopefully I'll have more in a month or two. :)

ETA: and I finally have a broody - my 'who knows what she is' orange chicken (she's halfway between a BO and a RIR, maybe a NHR X something) is growling at me from the nest box. Haven't decided if she will get eggs yet but maybe. Wish she would move tho!

Welcome to the club! Do you have chickens and if so, what breeds? We are all a bunch of chicken lovers here like to share about what we have.

Lynzi--might be easier for you to order hatching eggs and hatch out some silkies. Just a thought. Or maybe someone close by you with an incubator would be willing to hatch some out for you if you got eggs.

4 days till my 25 fuzzy butts arrive! 14 days until my silkie eggs hatch!
