NY chicken lover!!!!

Good morning and Welcome; Spent a couple hours Spring cleaning the coop and run,The girls even have pansies in their window box. I wish I had someone come and Spring clean my house. This is my Buff Laced Polish roo that I am trying to find a home for he is a gentle boy Can't keep him in the town I live in . Surprised the neighbors haven't called the town yet, since he is attempting to crow . No he is not dead just taking a dirt bath in the area I just cleaned up.

Love the orange hair(feather )extensions. looks like something I would let my hair dresser do to me; actually I have a red one tucked behind my ear right now.

Peeps are here! What cuties! So excited to start my chicken experience and the chicken math has surely begun....... I got these 10 'heavy layers' from AJ Domani today. They are eating and drinking well and sleeping well too!
More updates to come!
Thanks guys......

Don't know as to whether I have ever seen 10 inch Probably have but just never needed them. Why couldn't you use 5- 7inch double points and place markers at the different sections
I will check again but I believe they only have 6" here. Maybe it is 7 ". I need 10 inch. I thought it was 7".

I was just looking at the thread of the 8 comb types that is flashing up on the home page and I have a question. What type of combs do Polish chickens have??

Off to work again.... Will be rushing home from work because we have a new little pinto horse joining my 3 seniors. I've resisted chicken math somewhat, but can't pass up a free horse, so think pony math is my bigger problem. And that is why I built a huge barn with 5 stalls.

Morning all!

Featherz--Leo is a handsome boy. I bet all the ladies like him.

Rancher--that trick thing works both ways. All I have to do is start hauling out tools and I get, "what are you doing now" from my dh and I tell him I am fixing something and he usually tells me I have the wrong tools and I need to do it this way or that way and I tell him that he should probably do it so its done right and then he does.

Works for me!!!

Sad news. One of the chicks died overnight last night. I knew when I got home after work last night that it wasnt doing well. Tried to get it to drink some water with vitamins in it but it wouldnt. Just layed down and slept. Found it this morning all squished flat from the other chicks running over it. Now I know why hatcheries throw in extras. We had ordered 25 and got 27. Everyone else is running around like pinballs in a pinball machine! I added poly vi sol to their water this am to hopefully keep everyone healthy and bouncy.

The big girls and the kids enjoyed some leftover corn muffins this morning for breakfast. I had to wake up the hens at 6:15 as they were still roosting. Bunch of divas. Didnt take them long to hop down when they saw chickenmomma had goodies in her hand this morning. Good think I dont spoil my chickens otherwise they would be impossible to live with.

I see lots of forsythia in bloom around here and it looks real nice but my allergies hates them.

2 days till lockdown on the silkie eggs! I think I have one more quitter so that will leave 12 to hatch. I am soooo hoping all 12 hatch. Off to work for another fun filled day of insurance issues as well as everyone needing their refills NOW because they are going away for easter. I love my job because there is never a dull moment!!!

Here's one for my gardening peeps - a quick tutorial on how to grow potatoes in a trash bag. I may actually end up doing this, as it looks extremely easy, which means I'm all for it.

Also, let me inflict one of my artsy "around the yard" photos of my forsythia bush on you, just because it's cheerful and it sounds like we could use a little bit of cheer around here this evening!

Sorry to hear of your chick.

good luck on your hatch!!

Anyone hatching in a week or so? I have chicks hatching today for the easter hatch, but if my broody won't take any (she's only 2+ weeks in) I'm going to try to find chicks for her next weekend. Would prefer to pick up pullet hatchery chicks, but tsc should be out by that time.

If I have a big hatch today/tomorrow might TRY to see if she'll take a few early - did it once before and it worked, but as everyone knows, each broody is different. :)

Ok, this raises some questions for me.I have a broody in the coop. I have never had one before, so can I place eggs in the incubator under or chicks? Should I move her to the other coop? When mama and chicks are together, what food do I feed? Chick starter or the layer for her? do I feed both and some how put the layer feed where the chicks can't reach it? It would be nice if mama could do the work for me......
All suggestions weelcome. Gotta go to work. Have a great day all!
