NY chicken lover!!!!

Rancher---You crack me up!

Marquisella---Maybe your roo needs to hone his skills! I told mine that they would get more girls with dinner and a dance rather than force. They must have listened because since they started treating them like ladies, they like the boys much more!

TOB---I got both the spray and eye ointment at amazon.com. They work great. I got free shipping too.

Supposed to be warm tomorrow. Cant wait to get home from work and get into the coops and do some housekeeping. Yippee!

I have the same problem. Seems the only way I get fertile eggs is after a sneak attack by my roo. He is HUGE, so I use the word "sneak" loosely. But since I am not interested in hatching bunches of eggs, it's not a real issue.

On another note, has anyone heard from Annie? (HappyHensNY) She has always been my enabler and I would love to get some Chanteclear (sp) eggs from her this spring.
I see her on FB once in a while. Looks like she has been busy doing kid stuff

Thanks for update. Now that I know she is alive, I'll give her a call and see if I can score some eggs. Which means I'll have to buy an incubator, unless I can time it for a time I have a hen broody. (I think my egg eating silkie would go broody if I left the eggs under her for a few days AND she doesn't get hungry. LOL)

You might try some wooden eggs. I have them in every nest box. I've even left them, not often, laying in the yard. This way if they peck them they'll get a shock and think twice before going after other eggs.

I do believe it causes them to go broody more often. Though I have no proof.

I have golf balls in all the nest boxes except hers. I haven't been too sucessful in finding wooden eggs. I hate to shop, so I don't go into too many stores. She goes broody on NOTHING, in the sand. I don't think I'll have too hard a time getting her to set, if I just leave a day's eggs under her for a few days. Then I'll just replace them with the eggs I really want her to hatch.

Cass, golf balls are probably fine, but I just got a catalog from Premier and they have lots of chicken stuff, feeders, waterers, brooder stuff AND ceramic and wooden eggs. The fake eggs were very reasonable. They also had fences, of course.

So when are people going to start setting eggs?

I will be doing my first set for a Feb 15th hatch. It will coincide with my 25 chicks arriving. Setting Jersey Giants, Amers, Orps.

On a crappy note, hit a deer last night. I am fine, the car is not. :(
