NY chicken lover!!!!

This reminds me of something that bothers me. Why is it they only sell "Ladies" garden clogs? What men don't garden? Maybe they think men garden in their bare feet!

I got a pair from TSC that I know cost at least $40 or more and I wore them out in two months! I bought a pair at Sears $15 and wore those out in one year. I need something with tire treads on the bottom.
That's the idea, keep the men barefoot and pregnant. Would deal with the human population growth, thereby making more room on the earth for chickens and other birds.

Sorry to hear about your rabbits Lynzi :'( we had 4 of them and they all got attacked by something just 2 months after getting them. The worst part was my 11 yr old son bought them with his own $ :(

I got to Farm & tractor in auburn today ..they are getting ready for chicks .
I asked where they got the chicks from ? Mount healthy hatchery .
They are shipped USPS when they are 1 day old .

I also got some rubber boots ...ON SALE ! 9.99 Perfect for mucking around in a chicken coop

do opossums bother chickens ? I just saw a opossum go past the shed / chicken coop when I let the cat out ..
The motion light was on .
I got the same boots awhile back in a different print. They didn't last long, sorry to say. They seemed like pretty good quality, but the toe section ripped on both feet (the seam next to the little toes).

Yup. Dh just mentioned yesterday that after the kids are out of the house, we'll move to a smaller house with more land and big barns.

Morning Everyone,
Had a rough day yesterday...I went out in the morning to check on the peeps and also the rabbits (we have three holland lops) and it seems as though something got into the hutch with our two females and killed one of them. It was my son's rabbit and he is going to be devastated, I still haven't figured out a way to tell him. I'm just glad he didn't get to her before I did. That was the worst site I've ever seen! I still don't totally understand it. Two female buns in one cage, one was attacked the other unharmed. They were both fine and hopping around the day before and these two have been living together fine since we got them as kits earlier last summer. I plan on getting some hardware for the cage today to make sure the top on it can't be lifted up unless it's "unlocked". It's just so heavy as it is, I can't imagine what on earth would have lifted it up and then again to get out of the cage. Anyway, I thought of telling him that she somehow got loose but I don't want to leave him with hopes that maybe we'll find her or maybe she'll come back. He knows that we have predators out here and that one of our hens was recently attacked by a hawk but she turned out to be ok. So maybe I should just be honest with him and tell him that something did in fact get into the cage. I don't know, time to get this day going...I woke up with a headache and can't stand to do anything at this point.
Lynzi, I'm so sorry that happened! How terrible! How old is your son? I lean towards honesty being the best policy, but I guess it depends on how old he is. Did it look like anything broke in? Could it have possibly been the other rabbit? Did she have blood on her? Raccoons are smart and strong enough to get into a hutch, but it should be obvious that something busted in.

He will be 7 in July. Couldn't tell if anything "broke in" because it's just a simple hutch where the top opens up but it's got roof-like material on it so it is pretty heavy, however I have heard you guys talk about the strength of a raccoon. The other rabbit didn't have anything on it to leave me to believe she attacked or ate this rabbit. If anything when I got to the hutch she looked almost as if she was panicking to get out of there.

Definately honesty, on a level he can understand. I would go with something like "I'm sorry to tell you that something hurt your rabbit last night and it didn't live. It died. We need to fix the hutch so this can't happen to the other rabbit. You want to help me? When you are ready we can see if we can get another rabbit that you like as much as you liked this one" And then let him tell you how he wants to deal with it. Kids rebound pretty fast and he probably won't be as heart broken as you are, esp if he doesn't see the poor thing all messed up. Of course you should pay for the replacement, if you are able to afford it, so he doesn't take a double whammy, once in the heart, once in the wallet.

I wonder if Thatcher Park would allow a get together. I work with a girl who also works at Indian Ladder. Maybe we could arrange something there. They would probably love the business and they already have parking, live animals and food (when they re-open) and they have the best cider donuts. Let me know. It doesn't hurt to look into it.

I have friends and a relative that owns/works there. I can ask them later this week if that is possible. Is there any month or dates that are better than others?

Afternoon all. Came home and gave the cheeps the chicken carcass and rice that was leftover. Big girls were thrilled. (They get first dibs as they are the oldest and have earned the right.) Terrorists took less than 5 minutes to strip the carcass clean. You would think that they hadnt eaten in days. My hen with the prolapse laid a small egg today. She looks okay, nothing protruding. The top outside part of her vent still looks black so I am not sure what is going on there. I will bath her tomorrow and see what things look like then. I am hoping to reintroduce her to the coop this weekend.

Rancher--I will pass on your advice to my dh!!!

Made a new drink at work today. (Its my second job, so I get hours) We call it apple pie a la mode frappe. Tastes just like an apple pie with vanilla icecream, whip cream and caramel sauce on top. It was sooooooo good! My boss and I were creating. That was one of four we came up with. I like creating!!!

Uh, recipe maybe?

I am so sorry. My daughter had quail and possums took them right through the fencing on the cage. It was a rabbit hutch with 1/2" x 1" fencing. Devastating.

Lynzi - I am sorry for your loss. Predators seem to find away. I'm not sure what would to for the rabbits like that. I have a pile in the middle of the yard and I know there was a rabbit in it in the fall but no sign of it now. I do have one under the coop though and hope it's ok.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK! If men got pregnant you can bet your boots every household would have one kid and that's it. We're much to smart to make THAT mistake twice.
