NY chicken lover!!!!

Been emailing with the lady from Cobblestone Valley Farm (the organic dairy and pasture poulty farm). They don't do custom butcher because of NYS regulations, but did give me contact info for a place in Greene, NY that does processing. knk poultry is 607 965 8361

I have had great experiences with Berkshire View farm near Coxakie(sp)?

Like Cass we use paper towels in the brooder while the chicks are learning what food is then switch to shavings. During lock down we set our eggs in styrofoam egg cartons with holes for ventilatiion. The styrofoam doesn't effect the humidity.

Jen- in some breeds of chickens the hens have bigger combs (like LH or andalusion) and they flop over when the hens start laying. Hope that helps.

Welcome Serenity Lane!

Xovan-- what were you looking to swap for a BLRW roo? and what aged roo were you looking for (one hatched this spring or full adult)?

My little blue Silkie Hen, Iris, has decided that she wants to be a Mamma. She has been setting and setting, I finally gave her 4 eggs this morning. I checked the nests this afternoon, and she now has 8. Little Rascal!

Woohoo! Came home to two more chicks hatched out. One is a nice light blue, which is what I am trying to get. Hoping that more zip soon. Have to go let the terrorists and divas out before they hatch escape plans. Its nice out! Back later. Going to get some chicken therapy (and eggs).

I agree with both of these points.

I've got a BM hen wanting to sit too. I can't stand it. I will give her some eggs though.

Had a call today for 30 Dels chicks. Wish I had them but no. I don't think folks get it. I can't hatch that many chicks, as I may not get buyers. Then what would I do with all those chicks? As it is I'll be selling chicks cheap. Just can't be sure what kind and how many.
