OK. I have a question. It might be a stupid one, but here it goes. until recently I had two cockerels in together, but as hormones kicked in, they spent more time fighting with each other, than copulating!!(silly, silly boys!!). I want to use both for breeding and they are both respectful to everyone else, so no freezer camps etc. I have separated them and they each have some buckeye girls. BUT, as my chicks will be hatching, I don't want 4 pens of chickens. So, can i put a young (or old rooster{i could move grandpa }) in with chicks? Has anyone done this?
Thank You for your thoughts and/or ideas.
When I was ready to put my chicks outside with the rest of the adults my roo, Duncan, didn't both them at all. But he's also in with two hens. He hasn't shown any aggression towards them, nor has he tried mating with them. They're about 3/4 his size now and they've all been great with each other. Knowing his temperament, I couldn't see him objecting to living with the chicks if I had stuck them in there with him on his own. Sorry I'm not much help....
