NY chicken lover!!!!

Sorry for your losses. And the job? That stinks....Don't quit....give it 2 weeks and see how you feel at the end of that time. Really, 2 weeks can change your outlook a lot. (and get your a paycheck. LOL)

Jlaw....Prayers coming your way for speedy recovery of your daughter.

I'm with Cass on that. Almost every job I've had I had doubts about until I really got the lay of the land.

Cass - sorry to hear about your silkie. =( I hate the hawks! Lost my only favorelle last year to a stupid hawk - thank Goddess for my NN roo that fought off the hawk the next time it came by until I came running out hollering.

Speaking of dead chickens...Ok, we weren't, but I am gonna.

That Beeeep beepity beep Red tail Hawk got my $30 silkie. No, really, I didn't pay $30 for one chicken, I paid $30 for 5 chickens but only ONE turned out to be a hen. Grrrr....and the hawk ripped her head off and barely ate any of the rest. I am beyond ******. SSS. As far as I can see Red Tail Hawks aren't endangered. Yet.

On a much nicer note, I have almost collected all the 48 eggs I need for Tues. I am going to keep collecting and take the freshest ones to the grade school. It is awkward collecting eggs with a carton in your hand tho.

edited to add: Software turned one of my words into ***'s, but I am sure you can figure out what word I originally typed there. (hint, it started with the letter "p")
Sorry for your loss! I'm lucky in that my mother in law's Chow/Newfie mix keeps pretty much everything out of our yard, and if something does come it, they usually end up getting eaten by him. I'm hoping he'll make a good guard dog for the coop once it's finished.

I was thinking ...As you were singing.. Doo Doo is what chickens do best ..

Welcome Breela!

Rancher , give it a little time! It may work out.

Cass , Sorry to hear about your silkie. I have been seeing what I thought was a hawk around hear anf screeching like crazy. My farrier said he though it was a harrier? When I have time I will have to look it up!

Jlaw, Here's to hoping that your daughter has a speedey recovery.

I have 8 buckeyes hatched.....only 42 left in this hatch, then another 50(hope fully!) Deck the halls with boughs of chickens!FA LA LA LA... LA!!!!

Yesterday I stopped at an antique place to try and sell a couple earthenware crocks and hand cabbage shredder I have. I put a hairline crack in the one I use to make saurkraut in. I was hoping to sell the couple I have to use towards getting a new one. The guy didn't want to pay anything much for them and I had cut the price in half of what I paid for them. Oh well I'll have to try someplace else. I really need a replacement. I love homemade kraut.

I get a minimum of 12 good clean Sumatra hatching eggs a day if you find yourself short.

pithy ???????????? lol

My neighbor is giving me/trading me 18 of her eggs for each grade school. She wants some more hens (for the Hawk Gods to take), so that is a few of the chicks spoken for. Her friend, who has had chickens for years, told her that we wouldn't be able to tell the chicks apart because they will all be yellow, so we need to give all her RIR Eggs to one teacher and keep them separate when we collect the hatchlings. (there isn't an emoticon for how hard THAT made me laugh) I'm like "ahh, nooooo....all my roosters are black, the chances of my eggs hatching a cute yellow chick are pretty slim, we'll be able to tell them apart." Add black roosters to not one single RIR in my flock (Since I gave all I had to her already) and I think it's a lock on being able to distinguish the different breeds as soon as they dry off.

And remembering that I gave her hens recently solves the math problem I was having in determining how many chickens I have right now. Sheesh....how can I forget giving chickens away?
