NY chicken lover!!!!

$100 to $200 to deliver a coop is SO SO SO SO REASONABLE! I usually charge more than that to deliver a table. Anytime I ship even a 4 foot long table it cost me AT LEAST $200 to ship it via freight. That is just a SMOKIN deal on a delivery charge.

If the coop was only $400-$500 bucks I would pay it but these are coops that's start at $1000, which is NOT an amount I want to spend to begin with. But again if I were to spend that much, what's an extra 200 when you're spending $1000. I think I'm going to try the pallet route. If I can find free pallets and only buy the wood necessary to make the coop draft free it may cost me next to nothing.

great idea. Honestly I wouldn't build a coop to sell for under a grand plus delivery. BTW I don't have any draft free coops. Urban myth that drafts kill chickens. If drafts killed chickens my 6 year old Sumatra's who live in tree's 365 days a year would have been dead a LONG time ago

All 9 of my coops are good and drafty.

Well not really drafty, but more "predator proof". You know how pallets are slotted? I'd have to nail "walls" to them to make sure nothing could get in. I would make some windows to get some fresh air in there.

This is not true. I remember someone saying she could sex eggs by holding a pin on a string over the egg. If it moved back & forth or in a circle indicated the sex of the chick. Of course, that is not true either. Wives tales.
Phew. I was starting to think I didn't know what a football was shaped like. No matter what eggs I choose to hatch I get about 50% roos and 50% hens. Maybe I should try hatching just one hen's eggs and see what I get from the hatch. Each of my hens lays a distinct egg, except the D'uccles; theirs are interchangeable. So I could save one hen's eggs for a week and shove them under a broody. If I remember to do it, I'll let ya'll know how it went.

The EE hasn't named himself yet. :D The Captain has a habit of putting his foot up on a treat and then calling the girls, so he became Captain Morgan. He's a Speckled Sussex, and a good guy.

I'll just put a whole roo into my big Crock-Pot tomorrow, throw in a chunked-up onion or three and some smashed garlic, a few carrots and celery ribs for flavor, and some herbs (whatever I grab that's handy). Add some water and/or white wine, turn the heat on low, and let him cook! I did the last one in a packet of Good Seasons Italian dressing, and he was delicious.

Well, I'm sure EE will find himself a great name to match his nice personality. Too funny about Captain Morgan's cocky stance (no pun intended)!

Noted on the Crock-Pot recipe...will have to give this a go, as I've only put cut up chicken in it in the past. Thanks.

The lucky contestant has been in the Camp Crock-Pot hot tub for several hours now. I discovered that I only have sweet wines on hand, so he's in beer and water instead, with some shallots, some carrots, some celery, a lot of garlic, and a random assortment of herbs and spices. He smells better than he ever did when he was alive!

I've been searching around everywhere and emailing people for prices for custom made coops. I have two that I ordered online that are still in great condition but I'd like one bigger one that I can keep all the silkies I'll have (5 total after I weed out which chicks I want to keep) plus the two orpingtons. Right now I've taken the two coops plus the run and merged them all together only the coop on the right cannot attach and remain open to all so it's closed until the ducks arrive.

It's so frustrating. Everything I find that's reasonably priced, I'll end up spending an additional $100 or $200 on delivery! I finished making my wine rack today out of an old pallet and was thinking, if I could get enough pallets I wonder if it would be possible to make a coop out of them. Someone did it here....

I think it looks great and mine wouldn't have to be nearly as big seeing how small my flock is.

I needed a larger coop & made a hoop coop our of cattle panels. I repurposed most of the materials. If your looking for another idea the link for it is in my profile
