NY chicken lover!!!!

yes! I got some Marans, orps, and a few others from you but I also bought a dozen from Tricia and out some of my own in. I might possibly do another hatch I just don't want to spend money on any just to have them all fail. I have had two pip and start zipping today and they both died before finishing. I still see some rocking so I guess I will wait til there is no movement

I'm just disappointed. I would love a few marans chicks from you. A few pullets and a too would be good. Plus the lav. Pullet of course

I will be bringing more manure soon.
My chickens favorite place to hang out is in the horse pasture digging through the poo. At least it gets all spread out then fertilizes the grass! Have a good night everyone, time to tuck in the horses and chickens for the night.
I'm so sorry this hatch isn't working out. Must be so disappointing. Once I get more silkie hens I want to try hatching, it will be my first time trying it on my own with an incubator. I would be so upset after waiting and waiting. I hope you try again and get better results.

I would send you free eggs but they'd be mutts and those weird alien breeds you can probably care less for if you've been dealing with Rancher. LOL

I'm thinking of making an appt for my daughter tomorrow to check out this bite from the tick I found on her last night. It didn't look engorged at all, but it was definitely holding onto her skin. She still has a a dot from the bite and some redness around it, smaller than a dime.

Do it. The doctor will probably put her on antibiotics for a few days to prevent tick borne illnesses. MUCH easier than the months and months of antibiotic therapy if she develops Lyme disease. Not to mention the blood test to diagnose the disease. Oh and the possibility of life long problems if not caught soon enough. Not everyone develops the "bullseye" rash. Actually only 80% of people do, so that leaves 20% who are infected and don't realize it until they start having swollen joints and fevers. And folks, remember that it can take weeks for symptoms to develop, so insist on a blood test for Lyme's if you find yourself with weird symptoms that come on gradually.

I deliver the newspaper in Bridgeport and I saw a young fox this morning. Thankfully the ones over here in Manlius seem to stay near the Erie Canal areas.

My son and I also saw a red fox this afternoon. Very small and quite healthy and beautiful. Ran across the road and into a large cornfield near my home.

Oh boy, isn't that one stunning bird. I can't imagine he would go very long without getting adopted. Wait until mderby (or her husband) sees him!

WOWZERS -- he's a looker!

OK......................... Broody question : I have an Australorp thats broody. I gave her eggs to sit on Sat. She hasn/t been off the nest to eat ,drink or poop. It's 4 days........ should I be concerned ??

For Sure Do It!! Should see a Doctor within 48 hours, request the antibiotic and then Blood Work next month. Don't mess around when it comes to Tick Bites. Advocate for her and don't let them send you away with no treatment. best Of Luck~

Always, always better safe than sorry. Make the app't. But to maybe ease your mind, I had a similar sounding, red, raised "bump" for a few days after the tick came off (confirmed as a deer tick). It was even a little tender for those 2 or 3 days, kind of like a raw pimple would feel. My doctor put me on a preventative antibiotic not because he thought it was a bulls eye, but just to be safe.

PS: I remember my doctor telling me that a positive area would look like you laid a "hot pancake" down on the skin. It would be a larger, red area.

Nope. (that's the short answer)

I assume that you do not live in your chicken coop so she has been off the nest to poop, grab a bite to eat and drink while you weren't looking at her. She was protecting those eggs from you while you were looking at her. Have you lifted her up to see if others have laid eggs under her? I remove 3 - 5 eggs A DAY from under my broody that aren't part of the clutch I set under her. (I marked the ones I wanted left there with big BIG purple X's and O's.. I got bored making X's so I made some O's for all of you who are gonna say "why O, why not just X on both sides) If you get brave enough to lift her to check for extra eggs and find some you will know that she has been off. (If no other hens have access to her nest, this won't work to calm your mind. Sorry)

In the 1.5 years I have been on this forum, I have never read about a broody dying while sitting on eggs. Anyone else have any experience with hens dying while brooding eggs?

Haha! We seen him earlier! We have enough roosters now ;) Our red rooster has stopped attacking my son but now goes after the other kids so he may be on CL soon. I would hate to do that though cause then he may be attacking someone else's kids and we told your friend ( can't remember her name) we wouldn't eat him so I plan to stick to that. We will see how it plays out.

mderby: Just don't leave with my Del's or the Columbian Rock....they are mine, all MINE! I am wondering if Rancher might even part with one of the BM pullets that he is planning on keeping for himself......hmmmm, Rancher?????????? Maybe one?

Chicken Math!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Besides, I need something to break up the sea of white that is my future flock.

My horse, "Quixote" is happy to share his poop, too. Keep that in mind. I'm happy to bring you some if you need more. We ladies will keep you happily ensconced in horse manure!
