NY chicken lover!!!!

*grins* I have two horses of my own and access to the poop of 16 horses however it looks like there is a lot of poop available!

I think between all of us horsey people, we can keep Rancher happily knee deep in poop for a long time. **And if supply dwindles, there is always jlaw's offer.

Thanks :) I knew someone mentioned it earlier ...I forgot to save it .
Do you have Amber Links ? How old are they ..?
Mine are about 5 weeks ...& are pure white ..I am suspecting they maybe white leghorns ..
Or do they do their last color change with their last growth spirt ?
One I am pretty sure is a rooo .Rox

OK, you can tell I didn't finish my 1st cup of coffee, because I thought the (suspected) roo was playing the PIANO! They're very cute, Gramma. Getting big fast...

no access to horses but I produce plenty of poop of my own anyone wanna trade some chicks for it

Everyone....give your kids an extra hug and "I LOVE YOU" today. The news of the the 8-year old boy being killed in Boston is heartbreaking. It could be anyone's little, precious boy. I feel so sad about this...and angry...

Since it seems that Silkies stay black on the comb and wattles how do I know if they are hen or roo?

Pictures of the front sides and top of the head help, a male will develope what they call Streamers where a female will have a nice round puff. Also a Roo comb turns a mulberry color. Hope this helps a little....I'm a newbie myself but that's what I've learned from mine. Ha

Only 100% way to tell is to wait for them to lay an egg or crow. Just another reason for Rancher to think they are alien birds. LOL

x2 - pics would help but also, some are very hard to tell. I had a silkie that I believe was a mix of some sort because she had a single comb and no leg feathering that I was told over and over was a roo every time I posted pics. Then she laid an egg!

My son informed me this week that his 1st grade glass will be hatching eggs. "Ben's mom" brought the eggs in yesterday and I guess they are going into the incubator today. This will be the 3rd time my son has hatched chicks in school. With all his experience I'm thinking he may be better at than me by the time I'm ready to hatch our own!

The Khaki Campbells are now out in the coop, as they're big and feathered out, and they're getting too messy and stinky for the garage. The Rouens don't care - everyone is one happy duckeh family. I have five ducks and one drake, which I couldn't have managed if I had tried. So, I now have thirteen ducks, four males and nine females. The guys will be pleased.

The newbies ran around in formation in the run until it occurred to them that, hey! big water bowl! They spent the next hour playing in it and trying to eat everything. When night fell, I just scooped them up and dumped them into the coop, and penned them up in the playroom side. They're fine.

Tomorrow's chore is shoveling out the accumulated stinky ick and yuck in the run. I turned a lot of it over with a pitchfork, which has it smelling just heavenly out there at the moment. It won't take long to sort out, though - shovel it out to the bare dirt, put down some sweet PDZ, and we're good to go.

When I clean this coop I will dump it right in front of the run. It gets flooded and needs to be filled in. It's so muddy here I expect to by a ton of grass and clover see. I used to plant some Red and White clover but have learned that Sheep can't eat the Red.

Not that I have sheep but they might be a bit less work than a coop full of chickens.

It's a conspiracy I tell you!! They don't want you to know until they have weaseled their way into your heart. Then you are a slave to them forever.

I had a pair and they tried it with me but it didn't work. I sold them asap. The person that bought them looked at me funny. It might have been the tin foil hat.
