NY chicken lover!!!!

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
Hahaha! EVIL! ... yet here I am again. I was just out cleaning my coop while the girls were out, and I was looking at my coop and contemplating re-renovations and additions. The initial renovations were SO much easier than I had thought they would be...

I have killed raccoons 4 hours before sundown and 4 hours after sunrise. Always young ones.
My brother killed one once in broad daylight, it was a mean old coot. We were young, like 8 - 10 and he was so proud and kept his 'coon skin cap forever. It was horrid and mangy.

OH and PYXIS... THANK YOU AGAIN for telling me about the water thinger for the ducklings! You saved my life (figuratively) in time and worry, and possibly saved the duckling's lives (literally) in work-hours un-attended wet-and-cold. OMG I love this!
The Swede is the tiniest one, and she has positioned herself so that she only has to shift her weight to get a mouth of food, then a mouth of water (repeat)(repeat). Though she is tiny, she can shoulder the others out of the way to keep her sweet spot. AND they protect her. When the orange cat decides to sit on the edge of the brooder box and look at them like they are food, and they all spaz and head for the corner, they always keep the littlest one in the very farthest, back corner, covered by everyone else. The kitty would never eat them. She's too opulent.

I am pretty sure I need a few more ducks.

Just some recent pics. The chicks are from Lynne aka wwmicasa1 in California. Big Bruce lost half his comb to frostbite.
I LOVE everything about these birds! Their size, their coloring, they are just beautiful! Wish I had looked more into the cochins before I started because I would probably have bought a dozen of them.

Well just one chick has hatched, the rest are quitters. So now I have one lonely, adorable chick in the brooder all by her self :( she sounds so sad! I put a stuffed animal in with her but she don't really care. She had something wrong with one of her feet and I'm hoping it will be fine. This has been a stressful hatch! I'm not sure I want to ever incubate again!

great pics as always!! One of my little banties from you is already crowing!!! Less than a month old! He's a hoot. It's one of the little black and whites. =)
That's awesome. I have never had one crow before 5 months old. But the father to the black and whites is Roscoe above and he was crowing before I got him. He is the mottled boy. Probly the most "mannerly" besides Bruce here and at the bottom of the pecking order.

Awww thats so sad. Can you get her a chick or two somewhere or from someone so she's not lonely?

If you ever do decide to get some I almost always have hatching eggs. The problem generally is getting them to people.
