Now I would take all your roosters, Rancher, but I live too far away. I think roo stew is wonderful and nasty roo crock pot meal is delicious. (I actually have been known to put the name of the rooster on the bag, how warped am I? LOL)
You guys all raise 'em up and Ray and I will come out with our knives, hook (to catch them with), rope and saw horse; knock them off, pluck them and only take half the roos home with us. You keep the other half. LOL (PS FYI we don't gut them, too messy. We just strip the breasts off and cut off the thighs/legs. Only meat you are missing is the back meat and the gizzards, if you are into cooking them for pets)
Cass---love your description of how you and dh take care of roos! Sounds like us but we do the whole birld. Skin them out, gut them then parcel them up. Doesnt take long at all.
Rancher--what a softy you are. I am sure everyone will love your chicks.
Had a migraine this morning so most of the day was spent resting. Did drag myself out to give everyone their second dosing of ivermectin and let the silkies out for playtime after inspection (no cooties thank goodness) and then the terrorists and divas. I could tell when my dh had the leftover pork ribs because while I was playing with the babies downstairs I saw one of the terrorists run by with a pork rib hanging out of her beak and the rest of the gang in hot pursuit. Funny thing to see. I wonder what a pig would think seeing that????
Love all the baby pics. Working a double tomorrow.
Went out to Camillus today, if anyone is looking for wood scraps the residents on Kasson Rd have a lot out by their curbs that imagine the garbage people will be picking up soon.
Thinking about adding another another hen or two to my two buff orpingtons. I don't want any more chicks, pullets if anything. I'd like to find an egg layer other than brown. I love my neighbors chickens. She's got a nice variety of hens. I'll have to look up the breeds and post them to see if anyone has any. These two need some company.
Can you explain how to do ivermectin? Sorry, I keep reading threads about it and I'm not sure. Do you get the pour on or the injectable? What's the dose? I want to get it to worm my birds and kill the scaly leg mites the newcomers have. Do you throw out the eggs?
Thank you! Do you think this would be safe to use? It's supposed to be the generic version.I go into the coop at night with a head lamp on my head. Then I open the bottle and using an eye dropper measure the Ivemectin and going down the line I put it between the shoulder blades of each bird as they roost. Doing it in the near dark makes it easy peezy. good luck, rancher oh and I keep the bottle in the fridge.![]()
