NY chicken lover!!!!

I go out and check when the birds are squawking during the day just to check. So if you see an old geezer sprinting across the yard in his underwear you'll know I was taking my nap and to avert your eyes.

Now this conjures up quite the image!

Yep - fun fun! The bee deck was spectacular and great protection - unfortunately, when it came to a battle between the deck and a fifty-foot-tall pine tree in December (12/21, as a matter of fact), the tree won handily. It's all getting rebuilt, and hot wired this time. Bears are pretty bright, and make the association between unpleasantness and food sources pretty rapidly. We're actually putting plenty of hot pepper on the remnants of the hive this evening, as it's harmless yet sufficiently annoying that she should back off. We'll see.

Our next door neighbors are out running a hot wire around their rabbit hutches. She breeds lionhead rabbits, and has a whole bunch of kits right now. If that bear got wind of them, she'd just stand there opening hutch doors like she was grazing in the fridge.

I may just make a trip to Wally World this evening to get a game cam.

Your neighbor (and her rabbits) got VERY lucky. It would be a good investment to get a game cam. We get many interesting images of wildlife on ours. Good luck encouraging the bears to move along....and also with your new bee colony.

tied (edited from "wild" since crazy 4 chicks already used it...loony minds think alike?)

Ugh! DS said tonight that if he gets transferred to Canada he'd have to go alone and leave the DIL with the three kids to deal with the sale of the house. Which she can not do alone. Long story but that's the way it is.

Since I'm the only one with no ties, other than the chickens, I'm in the position. We've no money really and DW would have to take care of the chickens.

Plus there are chicks I intend to keep. The two born yesterday are a black EE/Amer and the other a Lav. EE/Amer. Very pretty.

I've got broodies all over the place on tons of eggs. I know they won't hatch them all but when they do things need to be dealt with.

If I go to AL again I'll be gone for a while and no idea when I'll get back.

It will definitely cut in to my spring plans and summer crop plans.

Don't even mention her family they are nuts with a capital N.

Oh I can't think about this right now, if I do I'll go crazy. I'll think about it tomorrow, after all tomorrow is another day. Help me Jesus.

This was exactly our story 4 years ago when my husband got a promotion that required a move to Albany. I was left in CT to deal with the sale of our house from April to Sept. I visited him on the weekends or he would come home but eventually I moved up to Albany. And now we're up here.

I hope everything works out and if you need any help with your birds there are plenty of people who I'm sure would help out! ;-)
