NY chicken lover!!!!

for anyone not familiar with the Brahma breed, they are the second largest breed of chickens, second only to Jersey Giants, they are feather footed, this can be an advantage in the north, they are very gentle, stand confinement well, have a sweet personality.   Anyone trying this breed for the first time loves them. They are a dual purpose breed laying well as well as fleshing out a large frame to make a nice roaster.
If only you were closer! Nobody around here has Brahmas. I have some hatchery right now and I would love some more! They are the nicest chickens I have. The Delawares are a close 2nd.

I wish you were closer also! I might be starting some eggs this weekend and could use a few more, but that's a bit too far for me, durn it! :)

we have a couple of wild rabbits that hang with the chickens 1st thing in the morning and at the end of the day. One morning I walk up and scare a rabbit eating in a semi circle with about 20 Sumatra's. He (or she) was just eating right along side the chicknens

I often see the wild cottontails eating next to the birds eating next to the chipmunks at the feeders...you'd expect one to whip out a guitar and start singing Kumbaya.

Anyway, it's cute!

Oooh! Good to know! I am going to try that. My Grandmother bought cracker barrel out of that Gardeners Hands mint hand lotion and soap, it smells very nice.

Slather it on, LOL! It's not like "OFF" where it's going to last for long. But if you've already had a shower and don't want to stink like DEET and just plan on a walk around the yard, etc., I find it helps for sure. And you get soft skin!

Jlaw,

enjoyed the pics of your adorable pullets. I like the colorations.

Everyone have a lovely morning before the rains come...

I've been so busy lately, I'm trying to make alterations to the old coop. Its just an old shed that was on our property when we moved here 11 years ago. We converted it to a coop last summer and at the time I knew nothing about chickens. Over the winter I had a ton of frostbite issues, I had no idea they needed ventilation, the roof leaks in a couple spots, they roost up in the rafters which is a pain in the neck. Lots to change anyway. Also getting ready for the pigeon coop this weekend finally! So much to do so little time! Have a good day everyone!
Forgot to add, I have TWO broodies now! They seem to be sharing the same nest taking turns sitting. Is this normal? I tried giving them both eggs but they will only sit in the one nesting box, everyone's favorite of course.

Attn. anyone within driving distance of Averill Park, my hens are laying up a storm and i hate to see these eggs not being incubated. I have alot of Brahma project eggs, these are color patterns that are being developed. Buff Laced Brahma, Silver Laced Brahma, Gold Laced Brahma, Light Brahmas, as well as blue laced wyandottes. All the Brahmas were hatched by me and raised to egg laying size. you can google images of these birds. These eggs were purchased on ebay or BYC auctions, many for 15-20 dollars an egg. they are beautiful birds. I am in the middle of a construction project, clearing land and building my new house, I do not have time to incubate these eggs rt now and am offering them to anyone who is willing to drive to pick them up free of charge. If you are interested PM me......Tom
maybe next broody. 15 to 20 an egg..... WOW. That's nuts

ok thanks rancher, i think i will keep them out. gotta follow "k.i.s.s." "keep it simple stupid". something i'm really not doing i guess. putting too much thought and time into something that should have been faster/easier than it has been.

dang pharm a 12 egg pound cake i may have to look that up see what they wife can do with that. She is worried we will have too many eggs and not able to sell them all. People at work already saying just bring them in for free. I mean yeah maybe a few but before i even get my hens laying and trying to sell some and i never mentioned a price just seemed kinda rude. Oh well what can ya do people always want stuff for free i know i do lol.

DW has the last 3 chicks at the house now. She likes them and didn't sound mad at all for just getting home driveing like 2.5 hours i think it was with 2 kids in the van. Gotta love her.

Yeah and folks wonder why there life sucks. "The sluggard wants, but doesn't get" always sticks in my mind. Lazy people want things but won't work to get them. Sure I'll take eggs for free. I get the same thing when I mention having too many beans, or other vegetables. "Sure I'll take 'em , bring 'em in". I'm thinking you could come and pick them yourself but they won't take the time to do it.

Of course if it weren't for those lazy dreamers magazines would never sell. I often think of The Little Red Hen too.

I donate eggs to teachers at my school who I know don't make a lot of money or families with lots of kids. (4 to me is a lot). Folks I think can afford it get nothing. Oh Seniors too. I tip the newspaper man and garbage men with eggs too.

You tell those co workers how much you want. I always charge .50 more than the store.

Darn it. I wish I could take some :( Unfortunately I have 27 chicks in the brooder right now so I don't think I have room for anymore...I would love to get the incubator up and running again if anybody wants me to hatch some for them
