NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi all, just a quick question.

Just heard the egg song and went out to get the egg. When I got there, it isn't even warm still - is it unusual for a hen to sing that long after laying, or should I be checking the yard for a secret layer? To my knowledge I have one BCM laying, she just started.

Here's another thought... I often get nice dark brown eggs, and sometimes, just regular store shade of brown. (one day dark, next light, next dark again even) Would this be likely from the same hen (pullet really)? She has laid less than a dozen eggs total (even assuming they are all hers) the other thing is that I have gotten a couple eggs with soft shell (both were light brown) in between ones with good shells. Same question, would it be likely that would be all from the same hen?

Could be how old are all your girls? Are feeding oyster shells?

Going to post here for now should be in the sick chicken area but I know everyone here tends to respond faster.

Got chickens yesterday well I moved the two smallest ones inside because crops was hard and one seemed to be limping. I gave water no food for a few hours and crops went down no problem. kinda paranoid after my first crop problem. Any ways the one chicken don't want to move its foot really. It was like a 3 hour car drive with wife having to hit breaks a few times and some faster than I would like turns. I've tried picking the chick up and feeling the leg some and don't feel anything wrong has real knobby knees that's about all that looks weird to me. I made this little video to try show what it looks like and what it's doing. When standing still it tends to lean on stuff keeping weight on one foot and holding other some. toes leg bend fine but it don't seem to have any grip with the one foot really. I'm hoping just spranged or something minor. Pad of foot looked slightly bigger than pad of other food but with it keeping foot like you see in video kinda hard to really compare even when holding chick. I feel no heat really and it don't flinch when I touch any where that I can tell.

I have it in brooder with the other little chick cause it's about half it's size and they seem to do fine together since they are the two that are same age and my youngest ones.

Jlaw, I am no expert, and hope someone more knowledgable will respond. But, you knew there was a but, of course I have an opinion. I would keep her quiet, with a friend, like you have, try to keep her from having to move too much. Give food and water, and perhaps the baby vitamins that people use. I don't know the dosage, but they are the drops with no iron. Maybe the search function on the site, dosage baby vitamin drops...
And I would hope it is nothing more. Keep her away from the rest of the flock except her little friend she is already with. If it doesn't clear up, and is something worse, you will need to consider the friend.

Good luck, I hope she is better soon.

I have poly vi sol from when my other chick was sick I don't see iron on the ingredients or as a nutrional thing on it. I read you can cut a baby asprin up and delute in the water but I wanted to get opinions before I put anything in the water at all. I have the water and food close to each other and keeping the little chick with her since they sleep next to each other. No way bum foot chick will see any of the other chicks again until this is settled.

I have had mine get limpy from chasing around, and your little one had quite a big day, moving and a car ride and a new home and family can all be stressful. There is also that electrolyte solution Save A Chick. I think, if it were me, I would put some vitamins in the water for now, if you know the dosage, since you have them. Seems like they could not hurt, and could help balance levels...
