NY chicken lover!!!!

I'd like to look into the netting. What did it cost you? What do you need besides the box and the netting? I have a box picked out already. Where did you buy the netting?

Netting I got was from http://www.premier1supplies.com/poultry/species.php (premier 1 supplies). If you get the 162' pieces it's the cheapest overall, $1 and change per foot. Used a Parmak Mark 8 charger from amazon at around $100 and all set. You'd also need a ground rod (or three) and a few miscellaneous supplies (hook up wires, etc), but it's easy. I've got 500 feet of it in one area and another 162 feet for another. It lasted all winter, even! :)

I also ran wires along the top and bottom of the coop and run, but that costs almost nothing once you have all the stuff above. Just some extra wire and plastic insulators.

As for those having predator issues - they WILL be back. =( My fox would come back every few days - had to lock all the birds up unless I was out there until I wired up the place.

Hello every one i'am new to this site and live in stafford ny i'am building my coop and run and was wondering if any one had any ideas on how to set it up thanks
Hi new person. Up at the top, there's a brown button that says "coops" and there are tons of pages of coops that people made, sorted by size, and they have their build "instructions" some more detailed than others.

Welcome, from what I've learned here very wide perches for your birds it helps keep their feet warm during the winter. Make sure you have proper ventilation in the coop as well! Good luck and I can wait to see pics Rock On!

Welcome to Enablers R Us. We will help you become an addict and teach you about chicken math! Everyone here sets up their coops and runs according to what works best for them. I would suggest looking at some of the ones on the coop page above and the ones on our pages. Read and educate yourself on what is most important in a coop and run. Ventilation and safety from predators are the big ones, Please feel free to ask questions here as there are a lot of good people here who are very helpful. What kinds of chickens do you have/want?

Goodmorning! Welcome jbwhite!

Planning on catching up on cleaning today and maybe trying a hand at brined sauerkraut since I haven't replaced my stoneware crock yet. I was able to sleep in this morning and don't have to work. Woo Hoo!

Good morning. I had a terrible time with foxes a year ago, but things are better. I still don't have a gun, but I did mention to neighbors that there was a fox problem, and heard gunshots periodically. Also I saw two dead foxes on rt 20, which is half a mile away. And I bought the poultry net electric fence. Life seems better now. I'd like more netting...but I better make some money first.

This weekend is our 40th anniversary. Yikes that's a long time. Many couples take trips or buy beautiful things for their homes, or major jewelry...my husband came home with the perfect purchase to celebrate. A giant rototiller for the tractor! Yay!

what kills me about that storie is they are only considered a farm because they eat the chickens. So i guess all the egg farms aren't really farms. An what happens if some one moves in and they raise and eat dog or cat? Are they now a farm? Some people do eat them.

Folks should buy a copy of "City Chicks" by P. Forman. A great book to use for info on keeping chickens in the city. Do you know a dogs bark is louder than a rooster crow decibel wise?

I'll be sitting out there with you tomorrow with my .22. Something took 6 chickens today. Found 4 different feather pile all over the yard...Buddy's feathers included.

I know thats the price of letting them free range. Four 2.5 month olds and two adults.
Oh, no!!! I'm sorry!

.22 is perfect for fox. Works on yotes as well. 22 mag is better on the yote's but the .22 will work in the chest or the head.

if all else fails shotgun.
Our neighbors have been a bit on edge recently since their house was broken into a couple months ago. I try to forewarn them if we'll be shooting. The coop is also very visible from the road, so I hate to be walking around with a .22. lol Police would probably show up quickly.

That's where I was looking last night. I thought I remembered you mentioning that site. Now to just convince dh. He doesn't want to spend the money on it.

Happy anniversary! Not many people can say 40 years. Congrats.
