NY chicken lover!!!!

Quote: No kidding ...I hope the parents are better than the kid ..Maybe controlling was what he was ..

How is the radio working for you ?
Ive just been out with the flock when they are out ..
I am so glad I stayed home ..I have been expecting it... as the brush & forest & the field has grown up behind us .
I have been clearing brush in our woods today ...More to do tomorrow ..so it has no place to hide or sneak up on the flock ..
Today I noticed the fox may have attacked a third hen ..she has some feathers missing too .

I've said it before and I say it again stony breeds mutants. It starts with the water they drink and bath in. One side is green the other side is redish brown. Oh man what to do what to do. Which side is the good side and which side is the evil side??

Sorry stony I cant help but mess with your pics. Maybe one day you will post something that isn't freaky.

Well, I have one or the other; male or female. I hope I get at least 2 to hatch. I have them under the best broody I have ever seen or heard of. She is wonderful, to the max, so if they hatch I am pretty sure they will make it to adulthood (predator's being the only exception).

I am looking forward to watching them grow and the look on their Momma's face when they start swimming. LOL

I wonder if Ducks will hatch chickens for me?

Pics pics pics!!! :) I love broody and chick (or ducklings) pics. :)

Morning All!

Hope everyone got to enjoy some of their weekend. Looks like its finally going to stay nice out. Getting excited for these two eggs to hatch Saturday, if not sooner. I don't know how much growing they could do, the eggs are pretty full. Lockdown is Wednesday!

JLaw - Stony actually has Indian Runners (I don't know about the color but def the breed) and his ducks are the just the cutest!!! If I ever expand with my ducks I'll be getting some IR's from him.

Morning all! Lovely day it was yesterday. I hope you got out and enjoyed it. Looks like rain today. The deer trimmed my blueberry bush and rose of sharon bushes. They eat everything! I am hoping my blueberry bush comes back. I know the sharon bushes will. Those things are indestructable.

I was cleaning up the cellar yesterday and had the sliders open for air (soooo much dust from the brooder down there!) and my tater tots (aka heritage rir babies) came running over when they saw me. I sat down on a chair and was talking to them when they invited themselves in and laid down on the cool concrete floor basking in the sun. They are funny, the four of them. They like to hang out with you whereever you are. My other cheeps do that but not as much as these ones. They are a very social bird. Anyways, I had a nice break watching them and talking to them and picking them up and petting them. After an hour or so, they ran off to do chicken things. They were hanging out with dh in the garage later listening to the mets game on the radio. I am looking forward to seeing what they are like all grown up.

Had to break up a dispute between two of my silkie girls last night. Sassy was just beating on her sister sarah (who is broody) and stripe had to get in her licks as well. Little man was trying to break it up but had his wings full so I went out and grabbed a stick and did a couple of pecks on both girls while telling them to cut it out. They stopped. I do have a solitary cell waiting in case sassy starts up again. A little solitary confnement goes a long ways.

The terrorists and divas were very busy relandscaping the woods yesterday. Not sure what they were eating but they were in there a long time. I kept hearing the falcon but didnt see it.

Stony---cute pics of the babies!

cute duckie dooos ....does anyone else see that TRex shape lurking below the last duckie ?
On the right there?? I see it, funny I wouldn't have noticed unless you said something, then I re-read JLaw's post about the green/red reflection in the water. Too funny. Its too bad that duckling on the right at the top wasn't a different color than the other two. Definitely would have looked like it mutated after leaving the green side. LOL

My good friend Bryan sent me this pic of wild chickens in Hawaii. Apparently if you can catch them you can keep them. Enjoy your day I'm off to renew my poultry license.

Maybe we should trade Hawaii some of our feral pigs for some of their feral chickens.

Actually, come to think of it, I believe Hawaii has a problem with feral pigs, as well.

ChickPrincess - I think kids having exclusive relationships like that at 11 and 12 is too early. The emotional pressure is too much for their (lack of) maturity at that age. This is my opinion, but I do have two boys, ages 12 and 15. Crushes are natural and healthy, but "boyfriend / girlfriend" and computer correspondence at such a young age is just a recipe for trouble. Have your daughter put some real distance between herself and that boy.
