NY chicken lover!!!!

Just dropped in from taking my SUN bath. Well not a bath exactly just sitting out there soaking up the sunshine. It has been to long and some very rotten days. I hate the clouds and rain. Runs are all muddy, coops need cleaning, grass needs mowing and garden need tending.

Jlaw gave me a couple of leads for BR's that might be ok. I think both are big deals in the chicken world. For some reason no one ever wants to share these sources for Dels and BR's.

I may have to reorganize my set ups. Which means more summer coop work. It's hard to set up for young birds to grow out, plus landscape each area so the coops and chickens are kept separate. The money is the biggest obstacle. Fencing mostly. I'm hesitant on buying a chain saw to clean some of these little trees that get in the way of running fencing. Mainly cuz I don't want the maintenance of the tools.

I'm wrestling with giving up the orps in favor of my CR's. CR's are not that common. At least not the TRUE CR's. Even the Lavender orps are becoming easy to find. I paid $20 per chick for mine but now can't practically give them away.

Well enjoy the day,

Rancher

Rancher enjoy the sun. We have had so much rain to. I cleaned out wet shavings to dry the runs out today and will put dry stuff in later. The tots are sun bathing as well.

Here's hoping we have many days of this beautiful sunshine for our chicks & gardens :)

Morning All,
Done with my morning chores....Let everyone out, checked up on the baby bunnies, Stella came out so I candled her eggs, let the ducks out, came back in and decided to take another look at the eggs in the bator and I have a feeling the two that are behind in development may have stopped developing all together. They looked really weird today - not like any other development I've ever seen in an egg. I think something happened in there and they're done. No movement, weird blobs all over the place, just weird. I'll leave them till Wed just in case I'm wrong but at lockdown if they still look the same I'll chuck 'em.

Rancher I cannot wait to come home and soak up some sun today!! My son has a birthday party and then I have to go shopping for the queen bee who's turning 4 tomorrow and then I plan on sitting on my front porch and enjoying the rest of the afternoon/evening!

Hope everyone enjoys this last beautiful day of the weekend!

Speaking of beaks, I noticed then other day my Silkie Roo, Duncan, has a crack in his beak. It's almost like its split in half. I'm not too worried about it seeing as how it's it's not bothering him too much. But is that it? It's just cracked for life now? I'm assuming chickens' beaks don't "grow".

Beaks do slowly grow, as far as African Greys. My M & FIL have a parrot that had been abused. We don't know if her beak had been cut mostly off or had an infection, but over the YEARS it is looking better and better. It will never be normal, however.

I'm dealing with a nasty situation with the breakup of my daughter's first boyfriend. She broke up with him yesterday. I know the family and they are a very decent family, so his behavior is shocking. He has called her a bit__ via email and has told her there are consequences for breaking up with him, and she has no idea what he is capable of. She's 12 and he's 11. Parents are more on the old fashioned side, strict and involved. (She broke up with him because he's too clingy). Still waiting to hear from the mom. Seriously? First bf and she has to deal with this??? Lord, help me.

Gramma, glad you saved the flock! Sounds like she'll do OK. Good thing you were home.

When I pulled the BR eggs it was apparent they were not good. Air space moving all over the place. Had to pull the three witches (think Shakespeare) off the nest again and put them on the roost. The two SLW's are still on eggs but I will pull them as well.

Sun if fading in and out.

With all due respect I have no idea where kids get they need a boyfriend or girlfriend at such an age. Also IMO it's the fathers who should be dealing with this boy not the mothers. If there is a father in the picture.

As the father of three girls I had to deal with a neighborhood boy. I took him aside and explained to him that I was sure he's a nice kid but my daughter was too young to have a boyfriend. He understood and that was that.

I find it funny that as parents we want to teach our kids not to cave to peer pressure but as adults we do exactly that in regards to dress, actions and relationships for our kids. I personally don't care what the rest of society's standard is with regards to kids and teenagers and I will not be persuaded otherwise. The proof is in the pudding as they say.
