NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi all! It is so darn wet here. Flood warnings out again. Brings me back to our 1972 flood. It did nothing but rain then too. Some of my chickens don't mind being out in the rain. My concern. Do they dry out after being wet day after day? The coop is well ventilated and dry. They look so , well, wet.
This is my first year of having my garden in by the end of May in a long while. My corn is 2 feet tall but with all the rain, the stalks keep falling over. I keep taking a gob of mud to support them back up again.
All this talk of when will the rain stop ? Made me think of this ..
Who will stop the rain ? - Creedence
Have You Ever seen the Rain ? Have we ever ....

Other than that you will find me at the fire eating and drinking coffee

Hmm do you get anything extra from eating the coffee instead of drinking it? Is it high in fiber?

Do you make it into a soup? Or more like oatmeal?

Stony, I too admire your camper. I've been a tent camper since age 4, and this weekend was the annual Moms And Kids Camping Trip. Three of us wanted to go camping with our young kids but our husbands didn't have time to go with is so we banded together and 3 moms 6kids would go off for a long weekend every summer. This started about 21 years ago. We have gotten soft of late, though and were in a lake home on Lake Chautauqua the last three years, and only one of the kids came. One time before kids DH and I were tenting with another couple enjoying a gorgeous sunset when the largest bus like camper I've ever seen pulled up and parked across the view. It had the TV on and air conditioner. No one came out at all for the rest of the time we were there. I'm sure they enjoyed their wilderness experience though.

Chickens can be messy ..I swear they spit dirt in their water
I have never seen mosquito larvae in the AVC water . Vinegar is acidic & can be used for disinfecting ....That is why the bowls stay cleaner longer .
Gramma, how much ACV do you use per unit of water for your chickens? It sounds like a great idea, I learn so much here from all of you.

Stony, the gypsy van is really coming along beautifully. I grew up backpacking most of my life so any form of car camping I consider a luxury (where you can actually have a cooler of food - wow!), that's pretty much all we do nowadays too, I'm getting too rickety in the knees to backpack anymore.

I know people like to "RV" ...but I honestly just don't understand it.

His paperwork said Quarterhorse but if he is I think he's more appendix QH, more Thoroughbreed than normal QHs. He has a lovely palomino coat with some roan on his cheeks and a deep red shine to his coat. He was beaten up pretty bad before I got him. He dislikes men (even some young boys) and the smell of cigarette smoke. He needs to build up more muscle before I will get on him myself (I'm a heavy rider) so I'm having various smaller friends and family get on him while I treat it like a pony ride. He seems to love it.
Good luck with him!! and have fun.

This is Peanut! Its a dark picture but you can see the flecks of red! He was crowing away this am, very happy to have that noise back

Edited to add;

Lapeerian, thanks for the info. That does make sense. It will be interesting to see what I get!
I know they line breed with dogs but it's becoming frowned upon, hip dysplasia being one of the complications. Guiding Eyes for the Blind doesn't follow that practice.

Stony, I love the camper! I can't wait to see the final product!
I've only been camping once but I loved it. Of course my version of camping is very different than my husbands version (he's a marine). I don't ask for much, just a tent and being within walking distance of a bath house. I don't need electricity, books, hiking and swimming are enough entertainment for me.
We went to Lake Moreau, it was a very nice facility, the only part I didn't like was that they mix tents and RV's together there, and the wood they sold us wasn't seasoned so it was really smokey.

I got a nice surprise today, the woman who hatched my girls eggs had one start crowing this weekend, she lives in the village so she couldn't keep him. Sooo, I have one of Buddy's babies back! (the roo I lost to a fox a month ago, and one of chickprincess' god babies).
He's an EE x BO mix, very pretty, black iridescent, with a beard, pea comb, and bright red streaks in his neck and saddle feathers. I will get a picture of his tomorrow.

BTW whats the general rule with inbreeding, I still have his mother, if I hatch again should I not use her eggs?

Hope his personality matches Buddy! Buddy was the good boy of the three! lol I already got rid of the one brother, and now the second has to go, as he's been coming after my daughter, once in awhile me, and doing some damage to the girls. Not like there's not enough girls... around 27 of them, mating age. He just mates OFTEN. Half of them are barebacked.
Love to see the new baby's pic!
