Lynzi that is so funny!

Cass pat was a good skit.

Pharm glad the girls got a feast! My sex links are pigs too but then they are getting big.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the weather.
I'm cold I want the 90'a back lol

Well let the ladies out at 630 today early for us in the summer time. Woke back up at 730 to my leghorn sounding like a Cadbury egg rabbit out side my bedroom window so wife shooed her into the coop. I get shoes on and go out back to see her in a box but she wasn't. She was back out front so I shooed her back in coop again. She made some noises into the nest boxes poked the hay and then started making sounds like seagull almost. I don't think she wants to lay in the coop. I'm still waiting to see what she desides to do figure give her about 10 min alone in there.

UPDATE

She picked a nest box and is in it kept door closed figure see if she makes any I made an egg sound will go back out there and check or in like 20 min.

Morning!
Chilly out there this morning! But at least the sun looks like it's going to be out today to warm things up. Just got in from letting everyone out, those little blue silkie chicks were puffed up like cotton candy! LOL The two lighter ones will be 5 wks old tomorrow and one of them already has a bump above it's beak. Weird cuz all my lavender were completely flat up until not too long ago. The tiny little dark blue one is still so tiny. He's 2 weeks behind the others but they did a good job of taking him in. He curls right up under them as if they are his momma. LOL I'm going to try to take some updated pics of them today.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!

46 degrees this morning and it feels great. The ducks love it when it get like this. They're all going crazy in their pond.
The big girls came blasting out of their coop and stood at the fence waiting for their morning treats. The guineas are so much calmer now that there's only 1 male. All the cochins were in a big ball in their coop. Nothing like a big pile of frizzles :)
As Lynzi said, the sun is out and it looks like it'll be a great day. Get out and enjoy it if you can.

ered past.

Now you would think with all the broodies I've had I've be up to my ears in chicks but no, they've moved around so much and others getting in to lay eggs only two so far.

I'm only half heartedly disappointed. Many repairs to do on roofs as the tarps or plastic have broken down and there is quite the mess. Bought the final panels of tin for one roof and DD says friend has six or so for another.

Also went to Ollies for a tarp for another hoop coop. Corrugated panels would be good for hoop coops too, but expensive right now. $120 as opposed to $10. I'm reluctant to do anymore work or spend more money, as I get tired and may have bit off more than I'm willing to chew. Perhaps it's time to downsize, though I'm wrestling with what to give up.

Has anyone else found them in this place of to many chickens? When did you decide you'd gotten in over your head and what did you do about it?

Garden beds will be covered and left un-planted next year for sure. Scored some heavy boxes from new chairs at work that will be good for that. Plus other weed blocking areas.

Saw a new bunny yesterday. She must have had a second litter but why only one bunny? I would expect to see more in a litter. I am in the process of blocking the path under the coop, so next year there will be no more in the yard at least. They will have to find new quarters.

For those who are feeding egg back to their chickens, I wonder why? Why keep chickens to only feed the eggs back to them? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep fewer chickens?

Cool nights resulted in turning off the fans in the coop, but they are not good for the tomatoes. So far I've only gotten cukes and some peppers. I'll be yanking out mints and replanting them near the coop. Chickens don't seem to bother them.

Anyone else got a garden going?

I feed some of my eggs back to my chickens for a few reasons. Often I get cycles of many eggs and then low cycles - so to ensure I have eggs all the time, I smile when I have more than I can use or give my neighbor. Also, I want to keep a continuing mix of young starting in - so that older hens who start to slow down are replaced with no gap. This makes the number harder to predict - Last summer I had 4 eggs daily for a while - then a few days in a row when all the old and young hens popped eggs out and I had dozens extra.

I do it simply because I have the extra eggs and the chickens love it. I'm not feeding ALL the eggs back to the chickens. These are eggs that have been sitting in my fridge for a while now and are probably on the verge of going bad if no one eats them soon. I still have another 2 dozen in there. If was keeping chickens strictly for egg production for our family, 1 chicken would do the job for our family of 4. But who wants just ONE chicken? I want eggs for hatching too but these eggs were not fertile, so I have no choice but to stock them up in my fridge. When they've been in there too long, I feed them back to the chickens.

I feed eggs back to my hens because they are the perfect food for them. An egg contains all the nutrients they need. I don't do it often but at least once a month.

Rancher what a great idea to put mint around the coops. I know it spreads horribly but its a natural bug repellent. My hens like to have a taste of it when my mom brings me some. Also makes the coop smell nice
