NY chicken lover!!!!

Nice score Gramma!!!!

I've been outside since being done at work at 2 and that apple tree I posted the other day is one of SEVEN (from what I can see) that are in my woods. Different looking trees too, some are small and green. Some are small and mostly red. And this one is is still holding the largest apples of them all, mostly green and some red. Wish I had a way to get to them.

Ok so I thought Runners didn't fly? LOL Decided to let my KCs out so they could get to their pond with hopes the newbies would just sit back and watch them wander about the yard. Nope! The blue runner "flew the coop" and went running after them. LOL So of course the black one is all upset, quacking away, calling out to them. I decided to let her out since the blue one wasn't running away and sticking with the KCs. She went running over and I have to say, I really love these runner! They don't seem to "nervous", kinda calm. I mean they're not running up to us or anything but they're not running across the yard away from us either. The magpies stayed in the pen and they can stay there because I don't trust them at all. Knowing them, they'll lead everyone right into the woods and away from our property. Got some pics on my good camera...

Hmm not letting me quote on phone.

But yes lynzi they are tsc chicks. I went to check for another egg before work and the oneall called a roo squated for me then the other did so i got to pet both with they normaly don't let me do. But. I think we are going to process them next week to make some room. Next year getting real silkies. I kinda want to keep these but also don't want to.

Gramma good score.
Lynzi I've never seen a runner fly. If I hold any of them and they decide they want down, they try to fly but end up on their face. They should get along great with the khakis since we had some here. We never separated them since we knew Bonnie laid a blueish egg.
Who knows when we're going to make it to the fair. I'm thinking the 23rd. The 24th is mother/daughter shopping day. The 25th is out since we'll be moving the only child to college that day. Hard to believe that we're going to be empty nesters already. The wife is already a stressed out mess. I keep telling her it's only Utica not the other side of the country.

After the blue one flew out I figured the black one (who I am naming Lucy) would follow shortly after, so I began recording her. Well it was about a 2 straight minutes of loud quacking so I gave up and just went up there and helped her out. They're doing great in the yard. Free ranging with the KCs and the chickens. Doesn't look like I'll have to worry about them too much. Those are some good girls you've raised

So if their mother laid an bluish egg with either of these two lay that color? That would be cool. Thats another reason why I was trying so hard to find magpie females because I read they lay a bluish greenish egg. I don't have any blue/green chicken layers so I thought that would be an added bonus if I were able to find females.

I'll be placing an ad tomorrow for these Magpies.

Yea, if you're not happy with them I would rehome or them or unless you know how to make some good Japanese chicken, yea get them processed. If you ever want to hatch pure silkie eggs next year they will just add those poor qualities to the offspring. And that would be a downer if one of your kids wants to show them...

That's this girl, no filter....complains and complains but does nothing to make her life better. But like you said, we all just keep it short and sweet with her and that's that. There's no telling her any different. 6 more days, just 6 more days!

Just try to be careful cuz sometimes I just say "that's nice" and at the wrong time.

Practice these lines. "I'm sure you'll do just fine." "I'm not qualify to talk about it". " I don't like to get involved". " You have a point". ( You're thinking, no matter that it's screwy). "You may be right". (You're thinking , but I doubt it)

Never respond with an open ended response that will encourage them to go on.

Whether you're at work or not you will have to deal with these people.

Rancher I had a broody. Let her think she was going to hatch her golf balls and ping pong balls but then the other 3 big girls stopped laying also. I kept tossing her out with no luck. Finally I pulled her out after dark and put her on the roost. She didn't go back in the nesting box for 3 days, when I found her again at night a couple days ago I put her on the roost again. So far so good she hasn't gone back. I'm thinking the cool air we have had at night might of broke her on her bare tummy

I moved her and two EE's to the BR coop. If she goes broody there, she's getting eggs. Any hen that determined deserves to be a mother.

Wanted to share my good news...
My aunt was diagnosed a few months ago with chronic leukemia (this after being on meds for years for severe rheumatoid arthritis). She has been taking chemo in a pill form and just got a call from the doctor yesterday that her blood is LEUKEMIA CELL FREE!!! Her white blood cell count is NORMAL!!!
Feeling very thankful this morning.

FIL's surgery is being scheduled for his bladder.

Girls are on a roll this morning. 8:30 and already 9 eggs laid Wow!

Well the good thing is, I've worked from home for the last 5 years of my career with this company. So the only time I've had to talk to her is thru IM at work. LOL It's a lot easier to say what the person wants to hear thru IM than it is over the phone. I may sound nice to her but in my head I'm thinking, What on earth is wrong with you?!?
