NY chicken lover!!!!

I try not to get much over 60% but we have different incubators. I've noticed in the past that I've drown chick's at lock down because of high humidity. I'm dry hatching this batch so I've been around 25-30% and will probably bring it to 55-60% at lock down in hopes of not losing as many this time.

I'm using the little giant. So far I've kept the humidity levels between 49-52%. Wonder if I should just keep it in the 50's since all has gone well up to this point???

This is what I was getting at. But if Rancher is saying an egg can't be re-fertilized, then I'm assuming if a hen is fertilized by roo A then her eggs wouldn't be fertilized by Roo B, even if he were to mate with her the next few days, until the end of those 4 wks....correct? That rooster A would have to be removed from the picture for at least 4 wks before you can be sure that Roo B would be the rightful parent to that offspring.
I guess I missed this convo but here is how it works. And it may have already been stated. A Roo mates a hen and she will lay fertile eggs from 1 mating for 10 to 30 days. FYI longer than 10 days and the chance of the eggs being fertile goes way down. Now if Roo B mates the eggs from that day on can be fertile by either rooster.

lynzi i may have to hit you up for your contact on the buffs. Hopeing to get hatching eggs early next spring so the kids can handle them from the start. As for humidity i wouldn't take it over 65% during hatching. As they hatch they will release more and it will jump depending on how many your hatching could jump and stay high for a bit. I dont know your set up. But i use 2 fish air tubing for fish tank that goes through 2 of my bottom air vents and then into two different troughs in the tray of my bator. Then i use a kids med syringe and put water in that way leaveing lid close. So i'm able to add more if needed dureing lock down. I find it harder to get rid of humidity during lock down than adding. Once again this is just my two experiances with hatching though. Everyone does it differnt also have to find what works for you.

It's funny since the silkies duck down and let the wife pet them she's kinda wanting to keep them now. I think they know they are on the list and the little hussies are trying to win over the wife so they dont go to wifes grandparents freezer.

Well i candled today as day 12. I have 24 out of 42 clearly moveing. I had 2 bloodrings and 9 not develop. I have some with veins and masses in the egg but didnt see movement at the time so i left them in there maybe they just sleeping. Woke up today to humidity being down to like 30%. I forgot to add some water for the overnight time so had to add 12 tsp water to it and have it at 57 now all vents open.

I don't have any Buffs....not sure of anyone who does either. A color like that you will more than likely have to get shipped. Not sure of too many people around here that have that color :-/

rancher I went to cracrzy4chicks today and If You don't name that lav Shmoo I get him. lol We wanted to take him but he was promised to you, so, I guess we will take black shmoo. He has great tufts anyway. The lav has none.

Tufts don't matter to me. I just want the colored egg gene for my EE's. I don't have any NN's yet, but I do have frizzles so I may stick that in the mix. My focus for purity is in my Dels, BR's and BM's.

EE's make a nice cross for colored eggs. Being hybrids they lay very well.

I hope things work out with the NN. Then I'll come and see you. A frizzled NN green/blue egg layer. OHHHHH and then a Silkie. A NN, silkie , frizzled green/blue egg layer. OHHHH then a Marans, NN, Silkie, frizzled olive egger.
