NY chicken lover!!!!

Good job, Gramma! A dog doesn't totally preclude the predators, unless it is outside roaming all the time. Mine is in with me. But it sounds like you are doing a fine job on your own.

Well the dog is now scared of thunder. Labor Day weekend we had some Lightning strikes right next to the cabin, I think thats what did it.

I remember we had to sign a waiver when we bought our house 5 years ago. It was an agricultural waiver stating that all of wayne county is zoned agricultural no matter what the town zones our area as.

Hope everyone stays cool today!

Morning all! Got a little rain this morning. Supposed to get hot and humid. Not looking forward to that. Still waiting on Eowins eggs to hatch. Should be any day now.

Rancher---sorry about your roo. I lost Mean Marge earlier this year for no apparent reason. She was a big barred rock hen. Got her name because she looked mean. .

Off to serve coffee today. Heres hoping for nice people and a slow day! Have a good day everyone!

Lavendar is a gene. You need to breed your hen, preferably a black, to another bird that already has the lavender gene, and then go back & build from those first splits who will have 1 lavender gene. Breed them to each other, or to another lavendar and you will get 50% lavendar 50% black. The lavendar gets diluted after a few generations and you need to go back to a black to strengthen it up again and to set your type . Breeding to a white, will just muck up the genes.

I agree Brella, it really is a pick your battles type of thing. Personally I'm the type of person to fight it just because I can be a beeotch and I enjoy picking fights with people over things like that. GOOD LUCK!

Just joined from Suffolk County Long Island. Hoping to get some ideas for local places for feed/supplies. Coop is being built, but we will wait till spring to fill it up!

I went to town hall to renew my dogs registration and decide to pop into planning and development since I was already there. Found out they knew who I was the moment I mentioned chickens (I guess am the first chicken complaint they have had in the town in recent memory) and that there are about 10 complaints against me, the earliest being from 4:30am but they did not say how far back the complaints go.. I spoke with a code enforcement officer himself and another gentleman whos title i didnt get. We talked about the property being zoned, it is still RA. They found it odd since I am smack in the middle of a gigantic cluster of R-3. They acknowledge that I am legally allowed to have Duane! I told them that I am looking to rehome him if I find that keeping him locked in the coop until late morning does not solve the conflict with the neighbors. I tried to be as civil and nice as possible and hopefully this continues to be as positive as this morning felt.
