NY chicken lover!!!!

Welcome to those who have just joined the flock. I'm loving how many folks we have in pretty close proximity, makes me feel like the stuff Brella was going through has to turn out ok because we are strong. And cause Brella handled it well...

Tab, how about stashing a folding chair under a tree in view of the road? Just for a couple of weeks? But you might enjoy it after the baby comes too. Must have been scary slipping like that. But the worst of the heat may be over. I hope.

Tab, please be careful.

Came home to a blinking microwave so the power must have gone out. Hopefully not for long as I have 5 silkie eggs in the incubator. The temp is where it's supposed to be so hopefully it was only for a minute. This will be our last hatch of the year so I hope it's better than the last time.

It's sooooo much nicer outside now that it rained. It was just horrible at work the last 2 days. Heat, humidity and sawdust make for a real miserable day :-( I'm really looking forward to the end of the week.

Today i was told by the officer again that my best bet to avoid court and fines is to get rid of Duane. He gave me a phone number for a woman named Karen B. from Madison county who does the eggs at school projects. Said she works with his wife's class for hatching projects and that I should call her to take Duane. :( if she isn't one of you ladies I really don't want to. I would prefer he go somewhere nice. Hopefully in a few months I could take him back if I get the property I want. (Anyone looking to sell/lease 5-10 acres to me for horses and chickens?)

So I guess hot weather means lay like crazy lol. So we have 9 layers and 11 eggs. There was an extra egg in each coop which means we may have missed an egg, one of 7 youngins is laying, or both. Sometimes the silkies hide eggs on us. And our Faverolle in the big coop may have started laying she is of age and has been squatting.

Bella I hope things work out for you.

My chickens were NOT happy today .. and I dashed out during a lull in the lightning to close up - nearly killed myself running that fast across a big open field just asking to get zapped. :p :p

I might have chicks soon, if anyone needs any..Some of the eggs under my four broodies are developing, including some teeny tiny eggs from my county boy pullets. :p

Third time I lost the message I was typing. Long story short:

Brouillette Poultry Company is the Karen woman that the officer wants me to call to see if they would take Duane. I highly doubt that they would.

I'm contemplating just giving Duane up for adoption. I have not hear back from Nutty yet. My mother in law might have a lead on someone who could take him. Right now it may just be easier than fighting them, They aren't angry about all of my chickens, just Duane. I think that it might be better for me to find a home for him than to push the town to decide to ban backyard chickens all together (even though I'm zoned Restricted Agriculture!)

(maybe I'm just prideful but he has grown into a very handsome rooster IMO)

Breella - he is a VERY handsome boy!!!! I can only imagine how hard it is for you to make this decision! But maybe like you said earlier, you could find someone who will take him for you until you find a place of your own and they won't have a problem giving him back to you when that time comes....

That is what I'm hoping for. You should have see the cops face today when he realized that I have 25 chickens here. He didn't want to come out back to see my coop and run either. I still think that this whole thing is fishy but like I said I don't want them to just up and say "no chickens in the town." That would be bad for Rancher and I like Rancher. (not sure who else lives in our town)

I also didn't mention to the cop that my seven chicks run a chance of being roosters. :-/ They aren't pure breed like Duane though. I had been thinking recently of showing Duane because I am impressed with him when I put his photo next to other Dark Brahmas.

I did pretty much the same thing trying to get the little girls back into the coop, but another round of heavy rain and boomers caught me out there! I hung out in the coop until the worst passed over.
