Breella,

Duane IS quite handsome, I agree. You'll make the right choice, don't worry. Just keep thinking things through and following up and things will work out.

Today i was told by the officer again that my best bet to avoid court and fines is to get rid of Duane. He gave me a phone number for a woman named Karen B. from Madison county who does the eggs at school projects. Said she works with his wife's class for hatching projects and that I should call her to take Duane.

if she isn't one of you ladies I really don't want to. I would prefer he go somewhere nice. Hopefully in a few months I could take him back if I get the property I want. (Anyone looking to sell/lease 5-10 acres to me for horses and chickens?)

Seems to me there is an agenda here, seeing that HE has looked to find a new home for your rooster. The threat of court and fines, in spite of the fact you have documentation that you are legal also makes me thing HE's the one behind this. Or at least is priviy to who is and is being specifically sent.

What did he say when you said you'd been to the town and are legal?

Third time I lost the message I was typing. Long story short:

Brouillette Poultry Company is the Karen woman that the officer wants me to call to see if they would take Duane. I highly doubt that they would.

I'm contemplating just giving Duane up for adoption. I have not hear back from Nutty yet. My mother in law might have a lead on someone who could take him. Right now it may just be easier than fighting them, They aren't angry about all of my chickens, just Duane. I think that it might be better for me to find a home for him than to push the town to decide to ban backyard chickens all together (even though I'm zoned Restricted Agriculture!)

(maybe I'm just prideful but he has grown into a very handsome rooster IMO)

And then what will you do , if the new place is AR too?

Planning and Zoning did confirm that I had 10 complaints against me regarding the noise. The officer has suggested that I try to rehome him because all of my neighbors are zoned R3, that I need to live near them and that I should try to do the "right thing". I don't want them to think that they have "won" anything against me but at the same time I do not want them to ban backyard chickens all together.

The new property we are hoping to get will be zoned RA, We are trying to cut down on our monthly costs, and having the horses at home will save me a projected $250 a month versus boarding my horse elsewhere. need to have at least 5 acres or be zoned RA to have horses at home. (or a special permit from the town)

Has anyone see these? Solar Powered Motion Lights? I was thinking of getting two for the coop.

Also, anyone have any experience with having a baby monitor in the chicken coop? A friend of mine suggested I try it to see if Duane is REALLY crowing at night/early AM (I honestly don't hear him crow before 5-6am.)

It is possible that he is crowing that early. You might try keeping the windows covered. I know I've heard mine at 4 am during the summer. Some are earlier than others and they seem to feed off each other.

He is a nice bird.

I could certainly find someone to take him but he'd end up dinner for sure. If you've plans to take him back then perhaps you could find a foster home.

Hello everyone, I am in Hartland NY! I have a variety of breeds 30 with 2 roosters. Also 10 ducks (5 Roan, 5Pekin). This is my second year having birds and I love having them they are a lot of fun !

That is what I'm hoping for. You should have see the cops face today when he realized that I have 25 chickens here. He didn't want to come out back to see my coop and run either. I still think that this whole thing is fishy but like I said I don't want them to just up and say "no chickens in the town." That would be bad for Rancher and I like Rancher. (not sure who else lives in our town)

I also didn't mention to the cop that my seven chicks run a chance of being roosters. :-/ They aren't pure breed like Duane though. I had been thinking recently of showing Duane because I am impressed with him when I put his photo next to other Dark Brahmas.

In my search on "ongov.net" I've seen some places zoned different. It may well be that that is what was applied for when the houses were built. I suspect they'd have to rezone the whole town and that is not likely. It could mean a lot of money. I don't know.

I do expect to cut back. I've posted my CR's on CL but no takers. I also have an EE roo that I did not expect so it may mean a trip to the auction. I will also be taking all the barred youngsters and any others I just don't want to deal with. I can't afford to keep roosters that I won't use for breeding.

Though like I said on the phone, I've considered just ordering future birds just to be sure I get only pullets and get rid of all roosters. Broody hens are a pain and as of right now extra chickens of either sex are hard to get rid of. Back yard chicken keeping has become that popular and everyone is full up. The next auction is Sept. 22. I also found a "Mikes Auction" but no other info. just a phone number.

In your case if you are willing to give him up you might fight and if you lose you'd be no worse off. On the other hand if you fight and win you'd be better off.
